Trump is guilty of being a lot of things, but homophobic isn't one of them.

As for Pence, yeah he is horrible. But he has also reversed policy positions he held previous to him becoming the Vice Presidential nominee which conflicted with Trump's positions. It's safe to assume Pence will follow Trump's lead when it comes to not prioritizing "family values."

Pence is awful, the Party platform is awful, but Trump himself is ambivalent about gay rights.

He hasn't really being an asshole towards LGBT but the problem is that many people who surround his campaign are big homophobes and that talks a lot about him as a politician. He may not me a "family values" guy but he isn't very LGBT friendly either.

Well he may not be the biggest homophobe out there, he just chooses them as VP.

Pence being one heartbeat from the Presidency should send a shiver down the spine of any member of the LGBT community and of those who love and support them!

We are talking about the guy who in 2013 signed a bill that would jail same-sex couples in Indiana who applied for a marriage license. To prove that he wasn’t singling gay people out, Pence was also willing to jail marriage clerks who supplied a license or clergy who performed the wedding.

He also wanted to divert funding from HIV prevention to conversion therapy. He wanted to ensure that “federal dollars were no longer being given to organizations that celebrate and encourage the types of behaviors that facilitate the spreading of the HIV virus.” So where should the money go? “Resources should be directed toward those institutions which provide assistance to those seeking to change their sexual behavior.” In other words, conversion therapy.

Pence also opposed the passage of the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Bill and served on the board of an antigay group.

Ultimately the buck stops with him. As the Nominee he sets the tone, and the tone he is setting isn't rooted in exploiting homophobia. Xenophobia, racism, and religious discrimination? Yeah. Homophobia? No. That is interesting and worth noting.

Dishonestly mischarterizing Trump as a homophobe is wrong, and isn't helpful if you want to try and understand the future of the Republican party.

Of course labeling him a homophobe is not helpful but ignoring his official team is full of homophobes isn't helpful either, it's rather nonsense and dangerous.

No one is ignoring that Pence passed legalization which discriminated against LGBT people. The fact that Trump is a bastion of ambivalence in a sea of homophobia is exactly why he is worth praising. He is publicly rejecting the homophobia prevalent among his closest allies and advisers.

He has never rejected homophobia in the GOP, he only praised the LGBT community after he mentioned the terrorist attack and after it contributed to his narrative. When he publicly supports the LGBT community itself and rejects the position of his party/piers and not just as Americans who can be affected by terrorism then we can say he is fighting against homophobia, right now he is only being neutral like many other republicans have been no using the community as a weapon for his fear campaign.

Pssssh, don't believe this man's lies. The only two candidates this election cycle who truly and always support gay rights are Jill Stein and Bernie Sanders.

Before the attack in Orlando and before Trump started using the LGBT community as a prop in his war against Islamism, Trump's lackluster condemnation of gay marriage, his tepid support for the community, and his decision to not run a campaign rooted in exploiting homophobia were refreshingly progressive for a Republican Presidential nominee. Compared to his fellow Primary candidates (a number of whom attended Prayer rallies which supported the execution of homosexuals) Trump's campaign was noteworthy for it's lack of focus on "traditional family values." It's particularly noteworthy when you consider that the LGBT community has a history of being used as scapegoats by fascists like Trump. His decision to include us on his side in his "us vs them" argument is historically noteworthy.

I'm not saying that Trump is an ideal gay rights advocate. I'm not saying Trump doesn't now have ulterior motives when he claims to support for the LGBT community. But it is undeniable that when it comes to gay rights he is the most progressive nominee in Republican history. The stark contrast between the rhetoric in the Republican Party's platform and Trump's iffy stance on gay rights should make that very clear. Regardless of the platform and of Pence, Trump is the Nominee, and he sets the tone. He is a different kind of Republican in many ways, one of which is the tone in which he speaks about LGBT rights. That is noteworthy.

But I think you have made it clear that you are more interested in simplifying the issue to fit your anti-Trump narrative then being honest about the issue. We can't talk in circles for ever. So I'll leave it at this.
