I'm really crying now, there was reportly an explosion at the capital. Why has violence "be the way to achive freedom"?

Above the founding father of Turkey, Mustafa Atatürk's tomb, in gold lettering, are orders for the military to defend the secular democracy of Turkey against Islamism at all costs.

Dramatica

Turkey should stand as an example for how a country with a majority of people belonging to Islam, yet the country is secular, instead religious conservatism is taking over the country (or trying to)? WTH?

Be safe everyone. My thoughts go to Turkey.

I didn't ask for a free ride, I only asked you to show me a real good time.

This is super scary we are trying to contact our relatives and friends there, but it looks like the networks are not working... Honestly this dumb bitch Erdogan had it coming tbh, like she was going for dictatorship and this is not the first time this is happening there.

I won't pretend I know enough about the politics in play in Turkey to know whether this is a good thing or a bad thing in the long run, but I just hope everyone is ok, that there are few casualties and that the situation eventually comes to some kind of closure.

Pain is often the price we must pay for freedom. :( Most of us on GGD are lucky that the fights for our rights occurred generations before we were born.

definitly! I could never imagine living in all these struggles and w/ the freedom I enjoy (especially like right now, where we can inform eachother about EVERYTHING!)

honestly, I never new that about turkey, giving me a whole new perspective on them. I finally "get" (a little bit) why all the turkish people I ever met are all so different (I for expample had some very conservative neighbors but some very modern friends w/ very modern families, values, believs & ways of life)

Hundreds of Turks have gathered in front of Turkish embassies in the Netherlands. Don't know if celebrating or not.
