A 6 weeks at #1 worldwide hit 'should' have a lot more views?

Still, 10M WW for the song isn't nothing, so yes it's surprising, but at least we have the sales.

A lot of people forget Born This Way the song used to have the most views out of any 'audio only' video on YouTube before it was removed. I don't remember if it surpassed 100 million, but that's definitely one of the reasons why. People couldn't bother watching a 7 min video when they could simply listen to the song in high quality just like that, for free. Also, the video is rather unusual and not very GP friendly (which I adore by the way), so that's most likely another reason

It was on her official channel? I never knew it existed!!!

So they deleted it because the mv wasn't getting as many views?

Yes :smh:

I remember the audio getting like a million views a day while the music video was stalling at ~40 million total or something :flop: But remember, back then streaming wasn't a thing, so of course they wanted people to focus more on the music video and didn't really care about the views of the audio :crossed:

Makes me wonder, does anyone know if there's a way to see how many views the audio of Born This Way got before it was taken down?

The music video got released very late, like 5 weeks after the BTW song was released. For those 5 weeks, they had an audio video which garnered 80 million views. They first put the audio video on private and after 1 or 2 years deleted it from her channel, which made people believe YouTube had removed that many fake views. I'm sure the fact that the video isn't that exciting played a big role too, but if the video was released mid-February, it would probably have 50-150 million views more (depending on the controversy of the video. When the song isnstill new, a video can become more talked about. On the other hand many people would still have preferred to listen to the audio because it's shorter).

But yes, like everybody else hs stated, the video itself doesn't have much replay value. Also consider that BTW was very frontloaded. After a few weeks it was already losing quite a lot of steam.

edit: just looked it up. Video was released 2 weeks after single release. I guess what I said played a much smaller role than I'd thought. In conclusion the length, lack of replay value and frontloadedness all played a role.

Sorry guys, but didn't somebody clarify that it was payola and it was being played on the radio hourly to make it the 1000th #1 song? No shade at all (obviously), just info I remember.

If anyone thinks I'm being shady tho don't bother quoting me with some bullshit cause if I cared I wouldn't have posted it, but this woulda been down to her label anyways, not her.

I mean she was the biggest star in the world, I don't think that she needed payola to have a #1 song. It did manage to stay atop the charts for another 5 weeks + sold 10m copies ww.

Even if they paid to ensure a #1 debut, how is this related to YT views? 😕😕

Over.

The thread title - payola is what would've made it go to #1 in the first place.

The reason I find it more likely to be true is because it was the 1000th #1 song, you know? Idk for sure obviously, but eh... probably.
