Reality television does not mean "documentary with real life actually possible drama" Reality television means "exagerrated real-life scenarios possibly scripted/situated for max rating and drama". They're out for money, not the actual idea of propagating good gay dating. Also, what does reality television do for mankind besides show the worst possible sides of us? And thoroughly entertain us by pitting bitches against each other? Best reply so far. Nailed it. Thank you!

AlexanderLevi2 5,849
I think this fan site represents the worst of gay culture. Absolutely nasty and body shaming like no other. We should be the most accepting of the bunch. Currently listening to Joanne

Absolutely nasty and body shaming like no other. We should be the most accepting of the bunch. I've been thinking a lot about this comment today @AlexanderLevi2 ... "body shaming" is absolutely not something I want to be guilty of. So I can understand where you are coming from and I respect your response. However, I think my point is being misconstrued. The point I am trying to make here is this... even on the "straight" versions of 'The Bachelor', the Bachelor is always a person who has seemingly "universal appeal" to the mainstream population. They represent the "ideal" personality that people lust for. Now, I'm not saying that the Bachelor is always universally appealing, but they do come pretty close. They seem to be relatively even-keeled people who are capable of generating extremely high ratings and selling zillions of tabloid magazines. They represent the "gold standard" if you will. What disturbs me about this selection of this guy for the "gay" Bachelor is that it sends the message that this guy is the "gold standard" that all gay men lust after. Which is simply not the case. He represents the worst stereotype of what we are assumed to desire: fake, 20-year-old-body obsessed, luxury-living, self-obsessed narcissism. This is a stereotype we are actively fighting. There would be absolutely nothing wrong with this guy being a CONTESTANT on the show (that is what makes The Bachelor so great, they love to cast these types of guys as the contestants to play into stereotypes of physical attraction), but he is not meant to be The Bachelor himself. Hopefully that makes some more sense! I've got no issue with this guy spending every last waking moment of his life at the gym and his dermatologist so that he can achieve the "look" that he is going after. But please, do not sell this to America as the "gold standard" of what gay men want in a partner. This is playing into stereotypes that are damaging to us as a community. But why does it have to represent some the worst stereotypes of our community? Body obsession, luxury obsession, sex obsession, etc... Sorry, but I am not here for this. Well, the same "values" that are being displayed in the straight version, if you ask me... What can I say, reality TV generally sucks - it's not because it's gay that it suddenly becomes good.
