I'm really surprised. Haven't seen it but I expected critics to pan it, as the public had already made that choice and critics tend to run with what the public says. But this is truly surprising. I'm unsure what I think about this. If it makes a lot of money, what message will the film industry take away from this? Because they always take away the wrong message. I hope it's simply: "Females are an under-represented demographic and we need to develop more original, good films with female casts." But I fear what they might take away is: "Re-imagining male-focused movies with female casts is the way to go." Because that is NOT what I want to see. It'll become such a cheap gimmick and will just subscribe to the idea of women only being worthwhile in film if they're female versions of existing male characters. No, we don't want to emulate men to be successful, we'll get there being proud of our gender in its own right and starring in original content that's made to have a female cast (or even better just an all-round human cast) in mind. And oh yeah, if the movie flops, the message taken away will be: "Nobody wants to see a female cast so we won't make this mistake again." It all works out in such a way that women can't win this.

There's already a female-cast version of the Oceans Eleven franchise in the works. I'm not liking the way this is going. It's shocking how movie studios have run out of ideas so just keep recycling stuff because they'll know we buy it.
