StrawberryBlond 15,555
Victor Barrio, a matador doing a performance in Teruel, Eastern Spain, was gored by an 87st bull on live tv. While injuries are common in bullfighting, the last recorded death of a bullfighter worldwide was in 1987. Link contains some graphic photos and videos: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3682545/Horror-Spanish-bullfighter-V-ctor-Barrio-gored-death-ring-stunned-crowd.html I hope this is finally the wake up call to end this barbaric 'sport.' It is unacceptable to still have it practised in this day and age. Not only is the event in itself appalling, but the build-up can be just as bad. The bull is abused for 2 days beforehand, having cotton wool stuffed up its nostrils and ointment rubbed in its eyes and is then kept in a dark, confined space, so by the time it emerges into the ring, it's in pain and disoriented. It then is taunted around the ring, having multiple spears stuffed into its back, so it begins to bleed. Eventually, the matador stabs it with a sword in one swift movement, between its shoulders. The other matadors then rally around with more red flags, continuing to mock it as it bleeds out. When it is almost dead, it's stabbed in the neck and then its ears and tail and cut off. Throughout this callous display of heartbreaking cruelty, the audience cheers and applauds wildly, with some even heard laughing. Unbelievably, a lot of people think this is simply cultural tradition and see no problem in its existence. I am baffled as to why it is not banned under EU law. The Canary Islands are the only Spanish region where the practice is completely banned, but Catalonia has recently banned it too, although other competitive sports involving cattle (Spanish culture involves a few) aren't made illegal under this law. It's sad that it might have to come down to mounting human deaths before anythign ever gets changed.

PartySick 172,389
I really don't understand how people find the live torture of an animal to be entertaining in any way. Whimsical bitch

For some reason people have the tendency to do that when animals follow their nature and do nothing wrong. Alcina Dimitrescu 1,157
You know, it is a pretty awful and abusive sport foe the animal, so in that way i agree with it being banned. However I find fascinating the fact that bull "fighting" dates back to the earliests human civilizations

It's like those people that mistreat their dogs, corner them, abuse them, then call them vicious when they fight back to protect themselves and they're put down for it. People suck, but what's new?
