If we're talking simultanious Goddess and Diva, Mariah has laid the blueprint: With arguably (imo) the best voice of all time and being the biggest selling female musician of the 1990's, her legendary status was already cemented, but she faced some dificulties in the early 2000's with the flops of her albums Glitter and Charmbracelet. She needed a comeback and Jesus Christ, she DID: 'It's Like That' was the lead single from her 2005 release 'The Emancipation of Mimi'. Mariah appears reborn as a bronzed, immaculate, unbothered goddess. Her outfits, her hair, her body. I needn't say more, watch the video. Then, this happened. I dislike how some seem to think it just means "classy sexuality." No, it's about a feeling of sexuality, an aura, rather than an overt, physical portrayal of it. Sexuality is revealing clothes and explicitly sexual lyrics, sensuality is clothes that bear suggestion and mystery and lyrics that are innuendo-laden, suggestive or not sexual at all yet strangely alluring. Sensuality is more like a more subtle, complex sexuality. I don't consider trashy ones to be divas. Being a diva pretty much distances you from any notion of trashy, no matter how sexual or sexy you are. And anyway, it's rare to find sexy trashy people.
