Read the rest of the article. It's supposed to be an opinion, not scientific. He looks for ways to make his opinion seem to have more authority, by stating that the well-educated are more likely to share his thoughts. He basically does the same as we are doing now.

Anyways, if it is indeed true that the well-educated (not Ivy league level but just below) are more likely to be economically conservative, we have to take into account the fact that those with a good education often earn more money, and those who earn more money have more interest in conservative policy (lower taxes on the rich compensated by lower welfare). This most likely has a huge impact on many voters. I wonder if the same trend counts for those with a good education who went for a lower-paying job and thus don't necessarily have an interest in conservative economic policy. On the other hand, you could say that those with a tendency to go for their favourite job rather than the one that pays the most, are naturally more attracted to leftist economics, which emphasises equality, equal opportunity and less orientated on the highest profit and more on the best quality of life. Conclusion: we can't actually know, but for the true 'intellectual elite', we can say that left-wing and progressive policy is way more common.

Anyways, I guess the socially liberal aka progressive part has been proven to be true now. The better the education, the more socially liberal and the less authoritative. Perhaps due to more open-mindedness, more exposure to different kinds of people and/or better reasoning skills.

This. There's a reason why a good majority of the south votes republican and it's because they have the lowest education levels in the country.

Luc summarized for me mostly   I was just gonna ramble about white privilege and how it allows millions of people to remain socially unaware, which tends to push them Conservative because once they reach a certain age and have always believed something, its much easier to assume everyone else is lying than to self reflect on your own stances.
