Usually the show producer contact the performer management. And since gaga doing powerhouse vocal In C2C, that kinda open the opportunity for her.

Didn't Gaga's management approach the academy? I mean she was in there in 2014 and literally everybody bashed her presence.

I also remember ATRL trying to use that fact against her--the she wasn't invited because of talent. Instead, she had to beg/grovel to perform, etc. whatever. Thankfully, the LMs in ATRL turned it around and said, "You mean her power is that she asks something and she gets it?"

OT: God bless that performance. My girlfriend is not the biggest fan but she messaged me about the performance, praising it and she initiated the whole conversation!!

I'll be honest, I expected the first reply to be "The Academy was reminiscing on Gaga's 2009 Paparazzi Vma performance???"  But now of course I'm the only one who has mentioned it 

Incredible performance. I remember the chills I got when she started singing... It was one of those magical moments when you could just feel how monumental the performance was. It was like the VMA performance previously mentioned or the meat dress - it just felt like we were all experiencing, at the same time, this almost transcendent moment.

It's one of those moments that make you appreciate the versatility of Gaga. There are not many artists that can shock the world with a meat dress and then years later shock the world again by simply standing and singing.

This. I've always been proud of my fav being the first artist to win a Grammy for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album and Best Electronic/Dance Album, I mean could you picture Michael Buble, Barbra Streisand or Tony Bennett winning the latter category?
