because they both released three singles respectively from Anti and ARTPOP. If I can't compare their singles' performance, ANTI and ARTPOP shouldn't be compared together at all since one is urban/R&B, one is EDM.

Both of those albums are pop albums. Rihanna released two singles hoping they would do well on Pop. Work did. Kiss It Better didn't. Needed Me was a surprise and did well on both Urban formats and Pop formats. In addition, ARTPOP did not get mistakenly leaked and did have two successful singles that didn't make the album. ANTI and ARTPOP shouldn't be compared just because they just not should be compared. I mean really... the only reason people are comparing the two because they can't handle ARTPOP flopped. People live to much for the billboard charts and RIAA certifications. We take it to that route ANTI is double platinum and still charting. ARTPOP has sold what it sold. The albums are nothing alike other than both being pop albums. It's still like comparing apples to oranges.

This :saladga: Rihanna always has this type of backlash, yet she remains on top because she's considered the "IT" thing in pop music, whatever she brings out, it still hits #1. :saladga:

Work is trash! Her worst song in her entire career and it probably cracked records like no other single of hers.

It's sad that GP picks quantity over quality.

But work is a really good dance hall song. It has quality. Its something different I think its cool its summery, easy to listen to and makes you wanna dance I love Rihanna because she does music that you can listen to 24/7 she is good at all genres similar to gaga but you cant blame Rihanna for releasing loads of music I mean its paying off some songs become massive and some dont sell very well but Rihanna loves the music and she is good at what she does, her voice is so recognisable and nice to listen to she is amazing.

I agree; to all those who've commented, I'd like to say that the album itself is amazing, I'm not disputing that. Merely commenting on the GP's attempts to tear the album/era down.

I mean, it's not that. Work is mediocre compared to the ARTPOP singles that Gaga released, not even being delusional. Rihanna gets praised for a song without a meaning behind the song, not even to mention that you can barely hear what she is singing. When Do What U Want, a song with quite a powerful meaning got dismissed and called "try hard". Like.. :saladga:

So you accept that Rihanna has been imitating Gaga's signature vocal technique? Also - Gaga had a contest? That's the first I have heard of it.

Umbrella ella ella eh eh eh (2007)

Shut up and drive drive drive drive (2007)

Repetition is a common technique to make songs catchy. Im just stating that despite her artsy fartsy attempts Gags isnt above going cheap to make her songs catchy

I love dwuw and work. If a song has a message behind it or not doesn't really bother me as long as it sounds good I'll listen but I appreciate songs that do have a good message from time to time

i don't like ARTPOP because it felt like Gaga was trying too hard to be different

Like ANTi was just different and original without anything extra.

Rihanna can't continue to release albums like Anti.

When her label decides she's not getting any younger, she'll have another Loud out.

I think anti is basically the pop sound of 2016 tho its like how loud was in 2010. Rihanna relies on her voice and her cool image. Even when Rihanna ages in 10 years time I think she will still look cool and there will still be demand for her voice on radio. Rihanna is one of the only massive star in the world who I feel has a great safe future in the music industry because rih I so versatile and commercial.

No, it's not the new AP, because AP crashed and burned and had no #1's in the US. Rihanna managed to achieve a #1 and a top 10 thus far. Her album hasn't sold as well and it's up in the air how her tour will perform. Gaga only had 2 videos for AP, Rihanna's had a video for every single thus far. She also got some other opportunities as a feature with Calvin, Drake, Kanye and of course, Star Trek, whereas Gaga was paid complete dust in her era. Anti is similar to AP in some ways, in the sense of one big hit and then failure. But she's still doing surprisingly ok in some ways.

And that annoys the hell out of me. Because Anti should have been a massive flop. It had all the makings of one. It had 3 singles before it, none of which made major waves (yes, FFS was a big top ten almost everywhere but a ton of fans hated it and it's basically forgotten about now) and they all inevitably ended up being discarded. The video for BBHMM took forever and garnered controversy. The album was taking forever to be released and the fans were kept in the dark. And that should've been the end of it, just another flop like all the singers that have come before her. But then something unbelievable happened. She released a new lead single, called Work and it took off incredibly. And I thought, ok, it's still going to flop overall, albeit with a mega hit lead single (what a cowardly way out, getting Drake to feature in the lead single, just so afraid of failure that he had to be called in). Then she announced her tour and it was stadiums, a great way of her to make more money and sales weren't bad, with not as many shows being cancelled or moved to arenas like I thought. The album was selling badly...But then Needed Me became a top ten hit in America. Then the collab with Calvin came out, which, though wasn't a hit of WFL proportions, was still a decent sized hit and the video is really taking off. Now, she's getting yet more promo with Sledgehammer and Kayne's controversial video. It's just like...what has she done to deserve this? Why does she keep getting second chances? When other singers flop, they get left out in the cold, why does she keep getting saved from failure? It's so unfair. I can't wait until the day she turns 30 and is officially deemed too old for hits and uncool by the youth market.

But at least the UK is finally starting to wane regarding its love affair with her. She hasn't had a solo #1 since Diamonds and her #1 with Eminem in 2013 is all but forgotten now. Even a Calvin collab, which would normally be UK gold, didn't edge her into #1 and Sledgehammer isn't taking off. Anti peaked at just #7, her lowest peak since Rated R and sales have been pretty bad. Sales for her UK tour have been bad with 2 stadiums cancelled, yet the remaining dates were still half-full. I'm hoping this is only the beginning of her time being up in the UK market because I've had officially enough of her. But at least she isn't over-exposed like the old days.

Songs repeating words/syllables have been going on since music was first invented... Its not really a signature to Gaga (unless you are talking about the buying Applause on iTunes competition)

Stop comparing Gaga to Rihanna. They're two different artists.

Compare Anti to Rated R, which to me is Rihanna's best album.
