We used to (only) have this version in France when this song came out. I know it's Director's Cut, still it looked like a lazy video at the time.

I am actually a bit speechless here. I didn't know what this video was going to be but when I saw your choice, my jaw actually dropped. I think you are letting your enjoyment of the video be clouded due to your clear distaste for rock music. This video is one of the best I've ever seen and it's also one of the best rock songs of the modern age. I wasn't paying attention to its views, so I'm super pleased to know it has over 300 million and over 1.6 million likes - talent does indeed win sometimes. Remember that a lot of people watch a music video to hear the song, as sometimes the audio alone is not submitted, so it's the only way they can hear it, so that's why it picks up so many views.

Do I Wanna Know? incorporates great animation that works according to the flow of the music. Every little bit of vocal, every key change, is displayed in visual form. It's a lot more than just "moving lines" and "random animation." Watch it again and FEEL the music, and notice how every image displayed perfectly puts that feeling in your body into motion. The cartoon animation is also expertly done and it flows so neatly into each other, one scene becomes something totally different as it tilts, colour is introduced, some animation fits the lyrics ("what time it shuts" with closing legs and "pucker up" with a set of lips). Maybe you just don't appreciate animation. But let me tell you, animation takes a lot of time, effort and talent, even when professionals do it and even when computers are involved. To bring a drawing to life is an art. Using actual humans and physical locations would actually have been lazier because such time and effort is not required. Naturally, it's harder to bring a drawing to life than it is to simply film a breathing human being.

I am baffled as to why you are giving videos like Into You (which isn't all that lazy, admittedly), Kill Em With Kindness and This Is What You Came For a free pass but not this one. Saying "at least the lights are pretty" for TIWYCF, really? Like I said before, you only seem to dislike this video due to your bias against rock music. Maybe you'd think differently if it was to a pop tune.

Plus, Do I Wanna Know? is a great song. Have you ever thought about that being the reason behind all its views and likes. This is the reason behind most "boring" videos doing so well, all things considered. Actually, it's a good way to get a high-rated video these days - make a boring one. Nothing to like, nothing to dislike, so people just like it because they like the song. Easy.
