Lady Gaga Blacklisted by China

Lol well that's funny. Politicians go hard these days I wonder where it will all go in like 10 years. With Brexit, trump possibly elected, separatist European governments and all that jazz. Chinese rich kids are invading the western universities now so it will be interesting to see how they generation will handle the situation.

and gaga just stands for what she believes in, Chinese sales are surprisingly small if I'm not mistaken so whatever.

QUESTION

President Obama also met Dalai and had a discussion together. What's China's approach to this? I dont really get it. Do they just fight against artists or smth?

They can actually ban artists and people like that, yeah. China had this to say about Obama's meeting:

"Under the cloak of religion, the 14th Dalai Lama peddles his political ambitions of dividing China all around the world. We ask all countries and governments not to give him any room to carry out such campaigns, even less risking arousing the firm opposition from the 1.3 billion Chinese people."

They're quite serious about anything at all that might be somehow connected to any possible movement which has the inkling of a chance of removing the communist party from power. I'm guessing the leadership is afraid of losing what in Chinese is called tiānmìng (天命), or the Mandate of Heaven, an indigenous philosophical belief that says that as long as things are peaceful, your rule is justified by higher powers. So as long as they can quell any rebellion by squashing it out of existence and convincing over a billion people to hate or ignore it, they can retain their godly right to keep their power.

You're not even allowed to use the internet in your country wtf do you know? :toofunny:

I can use Twitter,Facebook,Instagram or whatever Internet I want to use.I have been to Tibet,I have real Tibetan friends.I know government did terrible things, but Dalai has done worse, many innocent citizens were killed because of him and his organization.Maybe he has done good things in the west, but it can't cover what he did to innocent Chinese citizens.Politic is complicated,I'm bored of this argue.

i think that many forget, including myself, that there are still governments in humanity today that choose to guide and manipulate billions of people, and it's kind of eye-opening.

i'm assuming you're Chinese? how do you feel about the system?

I'm not from China, no. I just like learning things in my free time. So my thoughts about the system are from living outside that system and never being subject to it, so they may not be of the most valuable of perspectives. I definitely wish China would give more liberty to its citizens in terms of internet access, and that they would own up to and admit what they have done wrong rather than constantly attempt to be seen as infallible. Their economic choices have been dastardly for the environment but their economy has boomed, I guess. I'm someone that would like all nations who wish to be independent to be able to do so - Scotland, Catalonia, Tibet, etc. But that's likely wishful thinking.

i agree 100%. i just think that we live in such interesting times and society is continuing to progress. with citizens questioning the ideologies and values of governments and people of significant presence, it proves that change is imminent, it's just a matter of when..

Do you guys actually think those young Chinese that commented on Gaga instagram doesn't have access to internet because their government limit their internet access, I'm pretty sure most of them use VPN

I'm not even from China, so your argument about they only learn whatever China is feeding them is kinda ignorant

Dalai Lama mostly painted as a spiritual leader and a saint except by China

There is a chance that he's truly evil, because politic is ugly and never black and white

He got warned. But you know,  President of USA got immunity in most places that no other country leaders have :gaycat:

When David Cameron met Dalai Lama, the Chinese government cut ties with UK and with him until he send a formal apology and said he wobt meet Dalai again. :poot:

Radio Ga Ga

I feel lucky to be living in Hong Kong cuz we get free internet here, but I really feel bad for the Chinese fans out there. Functioning VPNs are getting harder and harder to attain...
