Huh, that's unfortunate. As I mentioned earlier, I guess I thought there was much more structure in the movement than there really was? I've only ever really been exposed to the values that they're fighting for (which I generally wholly agree with), as opposed to their actual physical approach to such activism.

What you seem to be missing is that these protestors are both POC and LGBTQ. Their experience with the police is something far different to the experience of a white member of the LGBTQ community.

When they talk about how they feel this apology is "used to mask the reality of police relations among the queer and trans community, black people, indigenous people, sex workers, etc." what they are essentially saying is that LGBTQ POC are still unfairly targeted and discriminated against by police as a result of a COMBINATION of them being POC and LGBTQ.

These protestors are being loud about their experiences of being LGBTQ, their sexuality is absolutely a huge part of this. We know that POC LGBT members are killed, arrested and discriminated against more than a POC person who is not a part of the LGBT community or an LGBT person who is not a POC.

What these protesters are expressing is an anger at the mistreatment of LGBTQ members of colour. This mistreatment is caused by a mixture of racism and homophobia. Where would you like these people to speak up? If they speak up at a BLM rally, then they are bringing their sexuality into it and apparently the focus should be solely on POC. If they speak up at an LGBT event then they are bringing their race into it and apparently the focus should be solely on LGBT pride.

If we want to be an inclusive community then we need to listen to and fight for every single person under the LGBTQ umbrella. We need to recognise that experiences of homophobia or transphobia that LGBTQ POC face is going to be different from the sort of homophobia or transphobia that white LGBTQ face and we need to talk about and fight against all the forms of discrimination out LGBTQ community faces.

It is unfortunate that their tactics over shadow their message. Given time that will hopefully change.

Because of the way you aggressively attack the guy. He made ignorant posts for sure, but you busting his balls about a ''fat joke'' looks just as petty lol. I'm latino, so I guess I'm a part of the POC LGBTQ community you're so fiercly defending. And the way you're defending this, yeah it makes me uncomfortable that you're speaking on behalf of me as a part of that community the way you do.
