Before you ask, I'm a Francophone from South-shore Montreal EDIT: besides, with so many cultural diversities in Quebec now, to separate would be a immigrant-repellant action. Bad idea. We've had two referendums and the answer was NO both times, and while we did come close to seperating in 95, that was over 20 years ago and seeing how the Parti Québécois has pretty much imploded since then, it's clear to me that independancy is no longer a priority for the vast majority of Quebecers. Quebec won't survive on its own, and we passed so many bills to support language rights among other things for francophones. This never makes sense to me, and I don't understand how Parti Quebecois still exist. It's too weak on a federal level Also, if Quebec is its own country, it will be a big ugly hole in Canada's map and you have to cross two border controls to go from East to West Things are better with Quebec than before, so I'm sure we won't separate. The main reason why some people want us to separate is that they don't feel like they fit in Canada because the culture is too different. I personally don't understand why it would be a good idea to put ourselves in a bad situation for a reason that is not really a problem. In the past, the idea of separation was understandable, given that the rest of Canada was actually treating Quebec poorly, but not anymore. Anyway, if a referendum happened right now, I think the results would be more similar to those of 1980 than 1995, which means that less than half of the population would want to separate.
