There's also the matter that statistically and realistically, when boards of admissions are picking between students who are already considered the "best of the best" from their prospective backgrounds or even on a national scale, there is to them virtually no difference. Generalizations are a big part of the admissions process in a sense. The guy who got 5 points higher on his SAT score might not get in over the girl who got a lower score but has other things to offer, especially if you count in that both of them scored in the top 95th or top 98th, 99th, w.e percentile of the national average. There's actually no reason at all to assume the guy is overall smarter, more likely to succeed, or a just overall better fit for the school because he did better slightly. The situations that make national news or are popular spread via the news and media tend to be these cases.

"I got a 4.0 and she got a 3.96 and shes a girl!" or even "I got a 4.0 and he got a 3.76 but hes black"  

Also, people who make this argument are being disingenuous as well tbh. A black person who lives in poverty and has been held back in life academically by their environment may actually have WAY more potential to succeed and grow as a student than a white person who get's a 4.0 and is middle to upper middle class and there's nothing wrong with any person in charge realizing this

White people who feel persecuted because of their race in college admissions should honestly look more at OTHER white people with more influence. Look at how colleges bend over backwards for (predominantly white) kids whose parents are alumni, or kids whose families have made donations or have influence at all. Tons of kids, especially in upper-class colleges get in based on minimal actual merit

Those are the practices you should be concerned about because they really DO cut at the spirit of fair admissions.
