1. Owning a gun is a constitutional right (2nd Amendment)
2. Constitutional rights can't be taken away without due process (5th and 14th Amendments)

Universal background checks can't be enforced without universal registration. The latter is not happening, and laws that can't be enforced shouldn't be passed. Someone who bought a gun from a friend last week could simply say he owned it for many years. Since there's no registration, there's no way to enforce this.

This would also not have stopped any mass killings. Omar Mateen passed his background check! Oregon shooter passed his background check! Adam Lanza just stole the guns from his mom. Etc.

And it's not feasible for every sale anyways. Too many sales to monitor in any kind of timely fashion.

Yes! They should be recognized and appreciated for not signing this mess. Those gun proposals sound good to the uninformed public, but when you look closer they are full of terrible, terrible flaws.

Addressing gun violence is one thing, but it's explained earlier why those two specific proposals are unconstitutional and/or unworkable as they were presented in the bills a couple days ago. I seriously doubt these 200 pop stars have closely examined the issue before signing this petition.

The terrible flaw is the fact people are getting gunned down everywhere because everyone is allowed to buy assault weapons. Like that is the terrible flaw.

You shouldn't be "shocked". The right to due process and fair treatment under the law and the right to bear arms have been constitutionally-protected for well over 200 years.

But it's obviously not working. How many innocent people have to die before we realize handing out guns like candy is a bad idea? Where's the fair treatment for the hundreds of people slaughtered by gun violence? We need better gun control laws, simple as that. If you can't get on a plane because you're on a watch list you shouldn't be able to buy a gun.

Nope. Gun violence has been steadily decreasing for decades and the 1994-2004 Assault Weapons Ban did not have any visible effects on the rate of gun violence. 

If you were concerned about gun violence in general, the class of firearms that causes the most deaths is handguns. By a huge margin. Common handguns were also the weapons used in America's second-worst mass shooting, which puts the lie to the argument that access to so-called "assault weapons" is the major enabling factor when it comes to these mass killings.

Err, incorrect. Taking away constitutional rights based on mere suspicions is not acceptable. There must be proof, there must be charges, not secret lists assembled without any evidence. If you're really too dangerous to fly, why aren't you in custody? If the constitutional rights don't matter, can the government kidnap and imprison the people on these watch lists? 

You're treating American citizens' gun ownership as a privilege, like in most countries. It's not. You might not like that, but the Supreme Court overrules your opinion, and mine.
