This bill has nothing to do with mental health. Let's for a second take a look at the shooter. He was in the closet. His lover stated he was exposed to HIV, then went insane. What sane person handles their aggressions like that? None. My point is that people must start taking mental health more serious or no bill, law, etc will ever work. Peace is not born through legislation. It's born in random acts of good towards fellow humans. Let's in courage more good. If this bill makes people feel more happy, then ok that is fine too.

Yes but if they do background checks for everyone attempting to buy guns - as proposed in this letter - then those with known histories of mental health will surely not be deemed eligible to buy a gun, no? How is that a bad thing? Obviously these things can develop over time and many are not diagnosed so not everyone who could possibly be dangerous would be blocked. But I don't think anyone is naive enough to believe this will stop shootings forever, but it will certainly reduce and prevent a few. If these background checks were done and people with suspected terrorist links were blocked then Omar Mateen may not have been able to get his hands on the gun that he used.

No one is disagreeing that a shift in social attitudes towards mental health is necessary as well, but I can't for the life of me fathom how anyone could think this proposal is a bad idea? It's not going to solve everything but it will definitely make guns less accessible for dangerous people. It's too risky to take a completely hippie attitude to it because that isn't going to stop anyone buying guns in the near future. Both avenues are necessary in my eyes and I still don't see why you think this is a bad idea.

And what could be so wrong about saving some lives. If even one murder by gun was prevented because of the laws then it's worth it. Noone should die just because incredibly powerful weapons are given out more easily than driving licenses.

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

It's sad what happened at Orlando and a good thing all these celebs are signings this but something like this should've been signed before rather than after an incident :air:

Indeed. The whole thing is completely alien to me.

Let's just hope it happens soon before another one can happen.

You do realize this in no way will stop shootings, or shootings like that from happening? I am for this if it helps, but my entire point is that something else needs to be done. This law is not going to help us. We have to find other solutions

If the Speaker doesn't want to bring something up, they won't.

The exact bill they're fighting for in the House was already shot down fair and square in the Senate just says ago. This is truly just a publicity stunt.

But hey, democrats passed up an opportunity to pass Zika funding during the sit-in. Yay!!!(???)

Just stick to what you know Gaga. Please.

We'd no longer have due process in this country?

I love how to same people who oppose things like Guantanamo Bay because it imprisions people without a trial/due process and the same people who want to take away right of the accused without due process. Hypocrisy.

Americans are soooo brainwashed on this topic it hurts my head :saladga:

And the heads of everyone else in the world who lives in a country with responsible gun laws.

I've gotta tap out of this one before it affects my mental health and I become cynical about the world we live in :saladga:

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

Are you reading any of my posts?

It's very cynical to say it won't help at all. Even if you don't think it will do any good it makes no sense to be opposed to this. It's not going to hurt anything and like Helxig says, even if it prevents one shooting like Orlando then it was a good thing to do. You can keep repeating that we need to do other things but I've agreeing with that idea all along :rip: It's not one or the other. I don't see why America can't explore as many routes as possible to crack down on this.

Hundreds of artists and many citizens of America are fighting for gun control in hopes of preventing future mass shootings (or to decrease the occurrences and prevent lunatics from purchasing guns) and all you worry about is if Gaga will release new music :neyde:

Yeah...some absences are really bothering me, cuz, you know, ppl sure know how to use SJWness to their benefit, but when something divisive like this come along they say nothing...?

ATTENTION: (bad) jokes and sarcasm are still a thing, so don't take everything I say literally. Thank you.
