Luiz 4,253 Posted June 21, 2016 Share Posted June 21, 2016 The city recorded its 300th homicide this weekend and went on to record six others over a 60-hour period that saw 59 people shot, 13 fatally, from Friday afternoon through early Monday morning. So far this year, about 1,800 people have been shot across the city and more than 200 of those wounded have died of their wounds, according to records kept by the Chicago Tribune. A total of 306 people have been killed this year by shooting, stabbing or other means, Tribune records show. A 3-year-old boy was among the wounded who survived the weekend shootings. Police said he’s in critical condition. The boy was shot in the right shoulder near East 61st Street and South Kimbark Avenue in the Woodlawn neighborhood at 6:15 p.m. Sunday, police said. The boy was in a car seat when an unknown attacker fired shots at the car, police said. People in the vehicle managed to get the boy to University of Chicago Medical Center. Yet Chicago passed a conceal and carry law a couple years ago that has made things worse. I live on the south side and have seen multiple dead bodies pulled out of cars in my neighborhood. It's like...if you're a parent and you have strict dietary restrictions for your kid but your kid has a neighbor friend whose family stocks the house with Oreos and allows your child to eat them all he wants and bring them home with him, then your kid is gonna end up eating Oreos. Now, would it be fair to say "See! Your dietary restrictions don't work," and blame the fact that you don't allow Oreos as the reason your kid is eating them and gaining weight? The fact that people in Chicago have guns and are using them improperly is not evidence of gun control laws not working, it's evidence of the need for gun control laws to be consistent across borders. I mean, if all it takes for someone to get a gun in Chicago is to drive a few hours to buy one legally from another state/city, then those gun control laws are moot. And really, the issue isn't with the gun control laws, its with public perception of guns. Also, you pegged me wrong. I don't believe in limiting guns, I believe in better education about guns and think that as a result gun violence would be limited. It's not about putting a gun in everyone's hand or taking guns out of everyone's hands, it's about ensuring that the people who do hold a gun do so with the right intentions and knowledge.
