Wall Street donors seek to block Warren VP pick

Big Wall Street donors have a message for Hillary Clinton: Keep Elizabeth Warren off the ticket or risk losing millions of dollars in contributions.

In a dozen interviews, major Democratic donors in the financial services industry said they saw little chance that Clinton would pick the liberal firebrand as her vice presidential nominee. These donors despise Warren’s attacks on the financial industry. But they also think her selection would be damaging to the economy. And they warned that if Clinton surprises them and taps Warren, big donations from the industry could vanish.

“If Clinton picked Warren, her whole base on Wall Street would leave her,” said one top Democratic donor who has helped raise millions for Clinton. “They would literally just say, ‘We have no qualms with you moving left, we understand all the things you’ve had to do because of Bernie Sanders, but if you are going there with Warren, we just can’t trust you, you’ve killed it.’”

Picking Warren would be risky for Clinton’s fundraising operation. The presumptive Democratic nominee hopes to raise $1.5 billion for her campaign against Trump, and Wall Street has been a big source of funding for her over the years.

According to the Center for Responsive Politics, Clinton and outside groups supporting her have raised $289 million so far in the 2016 cycle. The securities and investment industry is easily Clinton’s top source of cash, donating over $28 million so far, according to the CRP.

“Things are so volatile now with all of the outside groups that all it can take is pissing off one billionaire on Wall Street to make it difficult,” said Sheila Krumholz, executive director of the CRP. “And you don’t run national campaigns for as many years as Clinton has without some serious support from Wall Street, they are just too much of a heavy hitter.”

Hopefully Hillary will stick to her progressive words and choose Warren over Wall Street money.

Shadow

Hopefully, Wall Street and Washington will both go to hell when it's all over. The whole world serves the 1 percent and people are too distracted and divided to do anything about it, when they can so easily influence elections, movements, and is why Occupy Wall Street failed to garner substantial support. Can money be defied?

Stand in the light, cast your shadow.

If Hillary wants to win she'll stick with Warren. Wall Street can go back Trump. Fûck'em.

This will reveal a lot about Clinton's priorities.

I've been saying for a while a Clinton/Warren ticket would be great to "unite" the party (hate that phrase).

Bernie's "anti wall street" message that tired listeners seems to be important after all.

Imagine the mess if this article is seen by a lot of already disenfranchised Bernie supporters and Warren isn't picked as VP :rip:

Well, well, the boomerang she throw seems coming back at her now, will she able to dodge or catch it? :poot:

Not really. Hillary never planned to go as hard on Wall St. as Bernie and Co. aim to do. Her plan is to redistribute not eliminate.

I had hoped Warren would be VP but it's also true that it was probably never going to happen.

It is true that people are inevitably going to link this with Warren not being chosen, even if the reason is entirely different.

She needs to do this to prove she is for the people and not the wall street 1%.

The reasons for picking or not picking Warren are numourous. One being that more moderate Republicans and Independents would be more interested in a moderate choice for VP.

Also, if Wall Street was actually terrified of Warren, they should be doing everything they can to get Clinton to pick her as VP.  She can do far less damage to them there than she can in the Senate.

Interesting. If Clinton was actually considering Warren but now doesn't, it will add fuel to the fire that she's under the mercy of Wall Street and big money, which is NOT good and certainly one more thing on my "reasons I would've preferred Bernie" list :saladga:

I want Warren on the ticket, even just for the symbolism of appealing to more people (though I know she will work her ass off to influence policy regardless, she wouldn't accept the role and then just bow down to Hillary if they disagree on something)

If I were in her situation, I wouldn't choose Warren. Simple.

Is Bloomberg an option, maybe? Obama? Joe Biden?

Can she tho? Depending on the type of VP Warren would be, that's debatable. good point tho
