I hate how young singers nowadays sing with that 'pretentious' voice

I totally agree. IK some people say Gaga's voice is too powerful I'm like "why? Cuz she can actually sing?" I mean it's like this generation think that talent is to over enunciate words and have no idea who Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, and Freddie Mercury is. I'm not saying I'm a judge of talent but my god open ur ears lol it's annoying as hell that the talent of each generation gets more and more simplistic and boring.

You know, that voice..? The voice that teenagers like to use to create that twang, to fake that cool, hip indie sound? That voice many amateur contestants on singing shows use to make people think they above average?

We already had Cher :green:

But you can tell Cher is a woman when she sings. I had to actually look up whether or not the singers were male or female.

maybe I should say their voices were more childlike and genderless.

Thank you for saying this! Been thinking this for years! And pretentious is precisely the word I was looking for. They sing like sleepy drunk toddlers and expect it to come across as mesmerising and heartfelt? What a crock of s***.

Sometimes I'll come across covers on YouTube, and when I read the comments, most of the teens are like "Wow! Such an amazing voice!  You have SO much talent!  Better than most "singers" on the radio today!" but the cover is actually bad/mediocre. :koons:

YES. FINALLY SOMEONE SAID IT. TOTALLY AGREE. It's especially annoying when most of my friends love these kinds of 'singing' too and I have to bear with it almost everytime I hang out with them/in class :emma:

Side note: Shawn Mendes is still hot af to me tho despite his voice/music :sis:

I know they might not be the best examples, but you should know what I'm talking about, because you would have stumbled upon so many young singers on youtube singing like that. That fake, 'country' twang where they over-accentuate certain vowels to make it seem like they know what the hell they're doing (be sure to make dramatic facial expressions while doing that too...). I mean they might not even be bad singers, but they just sing like that, because...why?

It's so annoying and overblown by now. Just makes this generation of singers seem less talented that the previous ones. I feel singers were more natural back then, and had real POWER. But now teens can just pick up a microphone and fake 'good' singing..

Edit: After doing more research I realised that this phenomenon is called the 'indie girl voice' that everyone has been using nowadays, which was also inspired by the 'baby voice' phenomenon which is the whole reason behind that twang.

AMEN.

Like ReidOne, I knew what you were referring to before even playing the videos.

I can't stand that too, like wtf can you show some originality and personality? Stop trying to sound like an average amateur college singer.

I've been wondering why I'm more interested in singers in their late 20s or 30s like Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, it's because they don't sing like them at all.

I couldn't stand it when Let Her Go was huge on the radio a while ago, it was so fcking annoying.

Also I think this guy is another example :rip:, I like his voice but his voice just sounds like another teenager faking to be cool

Please don't act like you would know better than me. People in the past never sing like that! It's only because of indie pop in this generation that has influenced this kind of singing.
