Miss Great Britain stripped of title after having sex on ITV2's Love Island

The reigning Miss Great Britain, Zara Holland, has been stripped of her title after having sex on ITV2 reality show Love Island.

Beauty pageant organisers said they had “no problem with sex” but said they could not condone Holland’s relationship with 24-year-old scaffolder Alex Bowen.

Wednesday’s episode of the show, watched by around a million viewers, featured the two in bed together and what one insider described as a “look of delight” on Bowen’s face.

 

In a statement, Miss Great Britain organisers said they had taken the decision with “deep regret”.

“We pride ourselves on promoting the positivity of pageants in modern society and this includes the promotion of a strong, positive female role model in our winners,” they said.

“The feedback we have received from pageant insiders and members of the general public is such that we cannot promote Zara as a positive role model moving forward.

“We wholly understand that everyone makes mistakes, but Zara, as an ambassador for Miss Great Britain, simply did not uphold the responsibility expected of the title.”

If you win a beauty pageant, you are expected to have a crystal clear behavior until the nest successor is crowned.

Also, if they fail to meet the duties they need to do.

Because sex on TV is tacky  I mean, little girls look up to these sort of people, but if you have shows like Geordie Shore and Love Island, what image does that give to little girls?

The article sounds like they dethroned her because they did not like the guy she was having sex with. They did say they were ok with sex but not her relationship. It was as if because the guy she had sex with had a "look of delight" on his face.  Honestly, what was the guy's reaction supposed to be? Scared? Lol.

As if they were rooting for her to have sex with a different guy and when she did not, they took her title.

Well I don't disagree that it's definitely not classy  But being classy and being a positive role model are two different things. I also don't see how her strength ties into this at all

You can be a strong female role model and have a healthy and active sex life. What they are saying is, a woman who is comfortable and in full control of her sexuality is a bad role model, a woman who rejects social standards of modesty is a bad role model.

Further proving how antiquated beauty pageants are...

Yeah I'm on the same page  Like I get it's best not to be associated with that kind of behaviour when you hold such a title, but then the thing about the role model thing and not being strong and stuff I disagree with. If their reasoning was that the image that they want to portray isn't in line with her doings on the show then I'd have no problem with it

Skills cannot be judged within 5 minutes and woman's skills are what? Walking like they have problems with their limbs and faking a smile to look sincere for 5 minutes? Having a clean face with no blemishes and look conventionally beautiful? Answering exactly 1 question about anything that they've prepared beforehand? Looking good and thin in a bikini, a night gown and a custom dress designed to represent their country? Being tall enough to be beautiful?

I don't think a beauty pageant really represents a real woman.

You only answered to 1 of my 7 questions and I still don't think what the judges think they've seen is all that is of a contestant. People can fake their actions for months or years if they want something.

It's just a poor excuse to sell women's bodies in a business form. It's just a way to objectify women and tell them they're only beautiful when they behave like the winners.

Oh, another question. Why does a skillful, beautiful, strong woman has to only be single? Can't she be married to be smart and beautiful?
