John McCain: "Obama is directly responsible"

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), the elder Republican statesman, said President Obama was “directly responsible” for the terror attack in Orlando due to his failure to combat the rise of the Islamic State terror group.

McCain’s statement goes beyond the criticism of Obama that has been leveled by his Republican colleagues in the Senate, and it follows remarks made this week by presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, who seemed to connect Obama to the attack in a Monday interview and on Wednesday tweeted an article claiming that Obama “actively supported” the terrorist group that became the Islamic State.

McCain made his remarks in a Senate hallway to a small group of reporters, responding to a question about the gun-control debate that has flared on Capitol Hill since the Sunday-morning shooting that left 49 clubgoers and the gunman dead. Obama on Thursday traveled to Orlando with Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) to pay his respects to victims’ families.

McCain answered the question about the gun debate by citing Obama’s culpability for the attack through his foreign policy: “Barack Obama is directly responsible for it, because when he pulled everybody out of Iraq, al-Qaeda went to Syria, became ISIS, and ISIS is what it is today thanks to Barack Obama’s failures,” McCain said.

Let's not forget this is the man who's taken 7.4 million dollars from the NRA over his political career. Of course it's in his (and their) best interest to shift the blame to both Obama and Muslims and away from gun laws that are looser than the few brain cells left over in his head from when he almost put Sarah Palin a heartbeat away from having access to nuclear launch codes.

Anyway, he acts like Obama not calling it "Radical Islam!" every few damn minutes means he hasnt done ANYTHING to stop it, but he has done like, actually quite a bit on the front of terrorism  The seeds of isis were sewn a long time before Obama came into office too, so to blame him for that seems silly.

Especially since Obama's administration has been having one success after another in the fight against terrorist groups, including ISIS

Okay, but, if you preface the "pulled everybody out of Iraq" portion of that statement with the fact that Bush is responsible for the invasion of Iraq, isn't McCain's argument about what created Islamism the same as the Liberal argument about what created Islamism? He is arguing that America's foreign policy is responsible for creating Islamism, but he is blaming Obama rather then Bush? Is that correct?

Obama shouldn't have pulled out so fast. It is Bush's fault for putting us in but it is ultimately Obama's fault for pulling out so fast. He was just asking for a group to come in and take over

Ultimately it was a very stupid move on Obama's fault and he is responsible since he was the one who pulled out so quickly. He could have did it gradually but no he just pulled out all together.

When pressed by a reporter on the claim that Obama was “directly” responsible, McCain reiterated his point — that Obama should not have withdrawn combat troops from Iraq: “He pulled everybody out of Iraq, and I predicted at the time that ISIS would go unchecked, and there would be attacks on the United States of America,” he said. “It’s a matter of record, so he is directly responsible.”

He's putting ISIS' empowerment and rise on Obama's shoulders and saying it's his fault that they're carrying out attack on U.S. soil (even though the Orlando shooter wasn't part of ISIS, he only admired them and pledged loyalty to them).

I won't pretend to totally understand all this but I trust Obama tbh. Thanks to him, ISIS and other terrorist groups are on the run, hurting for money and troops, and losing a lot of ground.

Wasn't ISIS formed from radicals after the Afghanistan government was toppled (during Bush's presidency)? I knew at one point but it's slipped my mind tbh.

it can be called both hate crime and terror attack, but the shooter acted alone, had no ties with ISIS and at one point bragged about connection to Al Qaeda and Hezbollah, all 3 enemies of each other.

It wasn't orchestrated by them.

ISIS is getting bigger and stronger. It is a fact that he pulled out to quickly, ISIS just took over because he pulled out all our troops quickly. Horrible move but its not like he we ever good with foreign situations (Benghazi). And I would't trust any politician.
