The Democrats had just lost control of the House. A Republican President and House let the ban expire. TBH I can't disagree with his statement. Both the congress above and the 111th congress failed this country by not creating tougher gun laws. The democrats in the house and senate during that time were too busy being weak and being afraid to lose control again that they did nothing. The worst Democratc congress ever and they turned their backs on Obama a couple of time because he was unpopular at the time. I was peso ally very disappointed with that particular congress because they were from my party and did nothing for us regarding guns and LGBT. To issues very important to me. If you really want to blame someone blame Nancy peloci, Harry Reid and Obama for playing politics on important issues. I agree with you the 111th congress was a joke. I was very disappointed with them. The people above and particularly the 111th congress are both to blame. But I am hopeful for the next one. I agree with that. In 2008, Obama and Eric Holder did propose a permanent ban on assault weapons, with many Democrats taking the lead and wanting the law to be pushed through. It was a balancing act for many Democrats in many states, though. Their constituents were not concerned with gun laws and bans. Due to the recent security measures against terrorism and police protocols in mass shooting situations, the general public was feeling an overall sense of (perhaps naive) security. Like I stated earlier, the gun supporters were overly vocal (with the NRA moving to one of the strongest political forces) and the non-supporters weren't concerned. When an issue isn't a priority, it gets pushed down or ignored.

How are yougoing to blame bush when it could have been fixed after? That's exactly what I addressed in my two paragraphs in previous comments. Bush and Republicans are responsible for letting it expire during a time when there was tremendous majority support across the US. By that time, the NRA was in the backpockets of most of these politicians. They weren't risking not getting reelected.
