Aren't a lot of people against militarized police?

Yes, and I am too.  But if I had to choose, I'd still rather have the police have them than civilians...  :green:

Okay, personally I think that smacks of a "police state".

But anyways, my previous question, how many rounds is "enough" for a rifle?

Er no it's not a police state when the police aren't used to oppress.

How is this relevant? :rip:

Those are instances of racism not institutional oppression, which don't even apply in general as to stereotype the entire police force as being racist.

If civilians don't need "assault weapons", why do police need "assault weapons"?

You really can't think of a reason why police may need weapons of higher effectiveness in doing their jobs? :rip:

Also the ammo used is typically nonlethal, used for suppressing fire when facing groups of hostiles such as gangs or underground groups.

Civilians aren't typically cast to fight off such groups...especially when they aren't remotely as trained.

If they do, the probability of it happening to one person is next to nothing compared to police personnel who have to deal with it when it happens to everyone else.

That's not true, police use hollowpoint ammunition designed to expend all the energy in the target. :air:

If civilians (supposedly) aren't as well-trained, wouldn't it make sense for them to buy a gun which is easy to use effectively? A .223 rifle, perhaps? 346rqbt.gif

Okay. So you have no problems with civilians owning, for example, Canadian-spec rifles with 5-round magazines?

For example, this:

This:

Or this?

In the end what they look like on the outside is inconsequential to what they are able to do on the inside.  So the less rounds, the better, so yes!  :koons:

However, what about the countless rifles that have no magazines that small?

For example, this beauty with a 6-round tube?
