Alligator drags child into lake at Disney resort in Orlando

Really scary.. please don't blame the parents, nobody could imagine that this gator will be there... also, this is the circle of life and this is nature and we are part of it, things like this happened before and will happen all the time.

This is so different from the gorilla case that happened few weeks ago and in this case it's better to capture or even kill the gator to prevent more kills..

Actually it kinda is, the father let the child played in the body of water, though not swimming, still there was "no swimming" sign on it, which always means stay away from the water cos life hazard.

Well when I see "no swimming" sign it means for me that there is a chance for me to drown and not to be eaten by alligator, I'm not even thinking about it.. probably this is what the parents thoughts and this is why they were with the kid and didn't let him play alone..

These kind of comments are ridiculous. Didn't one source say the parent was near the child when it happened?

Has no one been to a beach or lake before? Do you think parents stick their kids on leashes? (And even if they did- would that ACTUALLY prevent the animal from getting the kid? - No.)

The family most likely thought there weren't alligators in a resort- someone in this thread said they assumed Disney had removed them from their resort areas- and the animal has camouflage so it's not like it would have necessarily been easy to see. 

This is an example of a family having a good time together supervised when an experienced predator snuck up on them and unexpectedly attacked. Stop blaming the family as if they just took their kid to some random swamp and pushed them in the water, my goodness.

just heard on the news that they've killed 4 alligators so far in the search for the boy and opened them up and found nothing. anyone not ok with this? killing animals to find someone who is already dead. what does PETA have to say?

Nope. Alligators are all around Disney's resorts. I saw some last time I went. 

And technically, Disney is not in Orlando.

Crocodilians (including alligators) drag their prey underwater and wait until it drowns before they start to eat. So I suppose both is the correct answer.

I saw that the family was supposedly from Nebraska, so that lends credence to the idea they believed the waters inside the Disney Resort area would be free of predators. Growing up in Florida you tend to know that things are just... around. In my hometown there's a lake full of alligators and springs a few miles north, also with gators, that you just have to avoid as you tube down it. There's nothing the parents could really have done, from what I understand, and the park can't always deal with people who put their toddler in a foot of water when there are no swimming signs around in a region of the world replete with alligators. 

But I know that these three incidents - Christina Grimmie, Pulse, and now the Grand Floridian - are definitely going to severely impact the Floridian tourist industry for the worse.
