You clearly are expressing your opinion and how you feel about religion and I'm doing the same. Since you have agreed that religion does exist (after saying it didn't) and it's a problematic term amongst scholars which means that it's used then there's nothing to discuss.

Way to twist what I said..

"I don't like it when people pretend there's a religion just "out there" apart from the people who claim to believe in it. You won't find it."

I'm saying religion is just a category in my second post too, so no, I didn't say religion didn't exist in my first post and I didn't say it then did exist later either, so that's two false statements about my posts right there :chica:

I'm not interested in arguing if you're gonna keep acting like your version of things is the only acceptable true or if you're gonna keep the passive aggressive attitude to get your point across.

Well, agreed about the passive aggressive attitude, but not about my supposed arrogance. I'm not fighting for any truth here, I'm simply punching holes in the one you're presenting, with solid arguments that I think are convincing.

You're the one claiming there's a true Islam out there, you're the one claiming religious people have an extra factor that's influencing their behavior, you're the one claiming religious studies wields certain set definitions about religion, you're the one claiming religion can stand apart from its believers,... those are all positive statements, I'm simply denying their validity, but I'm not presenting any countertruths or whatever. If anything, I'm saying things are a lot more complicated than you and others think. Important to note.

Anyway, I definitely got too heated and I regret that. But it doesn't soil my arguments.

"I don't want to compare democratic societies to dictatorships, the main mechanism of obeying or excommunication is still largely the same"

You claim to have refuted that when you completely ignored my arguments in that post just to then ask me: "What even are you saying? Governments and religions are the same thing?" (as if that was even a reply to my post which should've told you I wasn't saying they were the same thing, where the hell did that fiction come from). I directly gave a negative answer to that question and explained what I was talking about, and then you went on this route, so no, you did zero refutation. What the **** are you doing to act like you did  This is why I'm saying that I don't think you understand the dynamic of the conversation at all. You just make **** up.

I can't even find a post where I stated that atheists don't think about their beliefs critically, I simply stated that what Chic was describing as religious logic (filtering out undesirable facts because they don't match your values) was actually just universal cognitive functioning. I'm not targeting atheists, I'm only targeting the idea that there is a significant difference between the way religious people approach the world and atheists. You're free to disagree about that, but then come up with counterarguments :rip:

I ignored that excommunication bit because excommunication from a church and punishment by law are absolutely incomparable, both by cause and effect (unless you live in a country where the church and government are the same thing). The fact that you would suggest otherwise leads me to believe that you think governments and churches are the same.

The logic used by atheist who know why they think what they think is also not the same as the logic used by religious people. One is based on logic, the other is based on a novel which demands unquestioning faith. I guess I didn't make that clear, but that's the counter point.

Yes some (maybe even most) atheist assume laws are moral, and to those I say "what the ****?"

I actually have to ask. Is Zayn a homophobe or is everyone assuming this because of his beliefs? I'm seriously asking because Idk much about him.

What atheist believes robbing a bank is wrong just because of moral reasons?

The idea that laws stem from morality is a religious one. The case against anarchy isn't based on morality, it's based on logic.

You can't say atheist are hypocritical without generalizing all of them (which is crazy because the only thing they all believe in is that their is no god). Let's not pretend atheist agree with all the laws in whatever country they live in (another point of contention because not all atheist have the same laws, unlike religions which have the same holy text).

2.2 billion Christians. 1.6 billion Muslims.

Do you think all Christians hate gays?

Many other celebrities didn't either like Taylor Swift or Nicki Minaj.

If you think he needs to speak ONLY because of his religion, that is ****ed up. He's not responsible in any way.

Christians fanatics have killed people, did you ask every time celebrities, who believe in Christianity, to speak out?

Any Christian who actually believes their book, yes.

We just got marriage rights in the US, a very large portion hates gays.

"Punish" :wtf:

It's so funny to me that some of you are trying to defend this kind of thoughts... This were the kind of messages that led his son to commit the worst mass murder in american history! If the shooter was christian you'd be condemning him unanimously but it's seems like he's islamic so he can get away with everything.

A lot of them don't follow everything in their scriptures. There are not billions of people who hate gays, millions sure. If you believe that in this life you have to have enemies, I feel bad for you.

The Surrealist

He is clearly in denial about the happenings. However, the articles use of language is very prejudiced.

I do not know how people can blindly follow everything they're teached in their culture or religion. I am a religious Muslim myself, but I will question every Sure if I need to secure the well-being of people who surround me. I am confident a lot of Muslims do it too. How dare people blame the Islam for this? Killing people is a sin, especially in Ramadan.

These people are psychopaths hiding behind a Religion to excuse their behavior and the world is willing to accept this instead of fighting against mental illness, educating people and changing gun laws. Sharing love and compassion is what we need to do. All you do is spark flames of hatred.

This is so saddening to see. Muslims who are supporting the LGBT community and sharing their compassion on reddit are hated and their feelings are not taken seriously because they're "Muslims and follow Islam, which condemns homosexuals".

Is this the world you want to live in? People shouldn't judge you, but you can judge everyone based on their religion. How is this going to work?
