Hybrid AT 78
A closeted homosexual who turned into a homophobe? How sad. Lunatic. Bipolar. Bigot. And insecure. Everything was wrong with this man. May God give enough strength to the families and the close ones of the affected to overcome this grief as early as possible. Nobody deserves to bear the brunt of such hatred. My heart goes out to them. Also, such a slap on the ISIS' and their supporters' faces if this (him being a closeted homosexual) indeed is true. The joke is on them now. Too early 'cause all the information is very conflicting rn, and I don't know the guy so.. I just think it's sad for everyone involved. But I do have thoughts about others' thoughts about it and I've been posting those In any case, I think it's great that so many issues are discussed at once: gun control, homophobia, Islamic terrorism. I just wish the morbid fascination with this dude would end so we can have a thorough conversation about all of those things in their proper proportions, y'know. lego 44,165
"The ex-wife of Orlando mass killer Omar Mateen claimed Monday that she believed he was homosexual — as it was revealed that he frequented the gay nightclub where he staged the nation’s worst massacre in modern times. Sitora Yusufiy, who was married to Mateen in 2009 for three months, made the shocking claim on Brazilian television station SBT Brazil. Her fiancé, Marco Dias, speaking in Portuguese on her behalf, said that Yusufiy believed that Mateen had “gay tendencies” and that his father had called him gay in front of her. Dias also claimed “the FBI asked her not to tell this to the American media.” The bombshell came as a male former classmate of Omar Mateen said he had been asked out romantically by the mass killer, who reportedly was a virtual regular at the Pulse nightclub, having visited it more than a dozen times over the years. The former classmate said he would hang out with Mateen, hitting gay bars after attending class at Indian River Community College police academy in 2006 — and one time Mateen asked him out “romantically,” according to the Palm Beach Post. “We went to a few gay bars with him, and I was not out at the time, so I declined his offer,” the former classmate told the paper. http://nypost.com/2016/06/13/shooter-used-to-visit-orlando-gay-club-use-gay-dating-apps/ is this reliable? It makes sense that he'd be a regular at Pulse to get a feel for the place and be trusted for the moment he did kill. http://gawker.com/multiple-people-say-the-orlando-shooter-was-gay-1781932976 They interviewed his ex-wife and former classmates and they confirmed that he was gay. They also said....what his father told the media that he was enraged by two men kissing was complete crap and that he has seen more than a kiss and was OK with that

Nope, because I know you bring it up not out of fascination but to provide a counterweight to some of the blatant bias instantly going around, as if we know this guy because we know he's a Muslim and he attacked a gay club. But that's not how the papers are putting it on their front pages, sadly (some of are doing an amazing job tho, don't get me wrong) And well, actually I think that only happens when Muslims are involved lmao. There are some exceptions (Breivik for instance), but I dunno.. I feel like only a couple really get the limelight, when there's a juicy story to be found. No one cared about that dude stabbing his fav celebrity. No one cared about who bombed Paris (other than that they supported ISIS). Whenever people do care I smell something disingenuine. It's not bad, but I think in this case it's actively blocking important conversations to be had about prevention.

This massacre has brought together numerous issues none of which, nearly three days later, are being discussed seriously. That alone shows another huge problem. MJHolland 12,725
If only he grew up in a household of love and acceptance. My heart is still breaking today. Instead, he grew up in a household and a community of hate and suppression brought on by his religiously fanatical father. The same father was had the audacity to say "only Allah can punish the homosexuals" after his son committed this atrocity. My heart is still breaking for the people out there that are taught that they are not loved and that they are not worthy of life just for being gay because a holy book tells them so. I don't want to defend that guy, but you are purposely leaving out some of the things he said, "Asked if his son should have been killed before he shot dead 49 people, he said: "Yes, because anybody breaks the law, that person intends to kill other people, they should be killed. It doesn't matter who." "I know my son did an act of terror to kill people and I'll never forgive him. He was 100 per cent wrong. "I'm very sad and upset and mad about those people that lost their loved ones, the 50 people and also those 52 who got injured. They are my family because this act happened in the United States and we consider each oher like a family, a close family. I was really shocked why Omar did what he did." Asked if there was anything wrong with two men kissing, he said: "I have no problem or issue with that one. Everybody has his own freedom. The United States is a country where everybody has freedom of choice." Mr Mateen was also asked to comment on his remark that it was up to God to decide if people should be punished for their homosexuality. He replied: "What I meant was no human being can judge another human being, so an affair of a person gets judged by the creator. God is the one who knows what to do, to punish or reward someone. So as a human, I have no say. Based on the current situation, everybody has his own freedom of choice." http://www.channel4.com/news/omar-mateen-should-have-been-killed-before-he-killed FreePalestine
