His co-worker, who tranferred or left because of him, said he hated blacks more than anything and really hated women.  He said not sexually, but had no respect for women and despised them.  He said he complained several times that this man was unhinged, and the company did nothing.  He felt it was because he was Muslim.   He said he left after they wouldn't do anything.  The co-worker isn't surprised by this and keeps thinking could he have done more.

The guy was unhinged and brutalized his first wife until her family rescued her.  I think he hated a lot of groups.  But if true, that he had homosexual leanings, which I don't know, then the hatred would definitely have been because he couldn't accept himself and had self-hatred.  But this is the first time I"m hearing that, so I will wait and see if it's verified by a second source.

I don't know what to think. Whilst it's true, some of the most homophobic people are actually gay themselves and in denial... I doubt the legitimacy of it all.

This could literally be one weird queen wanting their moment and saying they knew this person, just like all these other people popping up saying he did this and that etc.

If he went to that club that often, he would be far more known in the community and we would have heard morestories like this. I live in a big city and even after a few trips to a couple of the gay clubs and bars, you recognise many of the patrons.

Homophobic men have targeted men in our community in this same way for decades. The way he went about this actually very old school. If you’re physically harmed for not being straight in 2016, more often than not, the violence is automatic. He was methodical and patient. That is what many homophobes (most prolifically in the south) were known for in the 80s/90s. One of the most horrific beatings in U.S. history took place in 1979 by a heterosexual man that paraded himself as homosexual for six years until he finally attacked. He wanted to find the “perfect target” and vouched to wait as long as it took. I’m not sure what made Orlando’s shooter finally betray everyone he deceived, and I doubt we’ll ever know, but I’d be surprised if that weren’t always the plan.

Self-hating bigot who couldn’t come to terms with who he was. Probably yelled about ISIS so that people wouldn’t question his sexual orientation, even in death.

People REALLY want this to be about terrorism and Islam, but honestly, my first thought upon reading this was that the killer was in denial and took it out on everyone else. Anti-muslim or anti-radicalization rhetoric wouldn’t have saved him - being part of a community that could be loved and accepted for who they are would have been able to save him.

Edit: The dad bringing up him raging over a couple of guys kissing was really telling, too. I’d bet the father knew.

Actually the gay community is one of the most isolating. There are many lonely LGBT wanderers and drifters who feel shunned by the mainstream gay crowd. They don't identify with the hedonism lifestyle of nightclubs and saunas and perhaps seek a reclusive life, yet cannot find anyone who wants to share that life. Not all of them will end up as mass murderers of course, but they do exist in the shadows (just because you don't notice them doesn't mean they're not there)

The anti-LGBT camp is now turning this around, being all satisfied that it was a gay man who committed this atrocity, saying homosexuals are self-destructive, mentally disordered and just being damaging to society in general. I have never felt angrier.
