The ones with a problem are those who are criminalising a whole religion because of a 1% crazy monsters do. And criminalising a whole religion for that 1%, when ISLAM doesn't have any problem and is against these acts exactly like Christianism is agains killing people but still whiches were burnt, gays were persecuted, native americans where mass murdered, inquisition happened and so did crussades. The difference is that christianism was actually supporting all those as a religion, while islam doesn't So don't say Islam has a problem. In the vast majority of Islamic countries, being gay is punishable by DEATH. How the F*CK do you not see that Islam has a problem?!??! That is not 1% of the muslim community. MOST Muslims support criminalizing homosexuality. Do you really not think the religion has a problem?!?!? This is outrageous. It's so upsetting and heart breaking that so many of you refuse to see this.

I do, but nothing of what I'm saying is a justification of it I'm not trying to defend that guy or Muslims. I'm trying to correct blatant prejudice and false information about Islam and its history. Very different. If you don't care about proper context, then that's your right, but don't accuse me of justifying violence (when I'm not) just to not have to respond to my arguments pls. I don't live in the era of western colonization. Do you?! I live in the year 2016 and every time I go out into a crowd, I'm afraid of being attacked. Not by a Christian, not by a Jew, not by a Hindu, and not even by a redneck. I'm afraid of being attack by a Muslim terrorist because that's the world we ALL live in. F*ck history. I care about moving forward and changing the FACT that MOST muslims support criminalizing homosexuality, or the fact that you can be legally KILLED for being gay in Muslims countries. That is NOT a fringe sect of Islam. That's the entire culture!

There is a clear problem within the Muslim community that needs to be addressed. It may not sound politically correct but it's very much the truth that only continues to fester as long as it is ignored. It's not about criminalizing the entire religion either. It's about the culture of violence that is being perpetuated and justified through the religion. It's also indirectly supported by those who do nothing to help the authorities because they're trying to protect their own families, unfortunately at the expense of others. Do you know how much could be averted if people started reporting these incidents more often? Furthermore Islam is incorporated into many of governments which also has an affect on cultures and mindsets. There is a clear feedback loop going on here. Theocracies cannot coexist with secularist mentalities, which include tolerance and respect to other religions and lifestyles. It doesn't matter if people don't consider these people Muslims. They're doing in the name of Islam and it's up to the religious leaders to continue pressing that what they're doing goes against the tenants. Frankly their first step is to denounce the Koran's segments that denounce violence, just like we expect Christians to denounce the segments that talk about violence. More needs to be done to combat the zealotry and it's fact that the majority of terrorist incidents today are related to Islam. Note that I'm not advocating for Trump-like measures, but implying that Islam and the Muslim community is irrelevant to this is not only ignorant but very irresponsible. ----- In any case this is not the time to be discussing these matters. I'll just step away now... The Lebanese bomb has me on my nerves. My mother drives by that place. Edited just now by LebaneseDude.

But then people like you can still refrain from acting like Islamic culture is homophobic and violent by default Do you think that's gonna help even a little bit? No, because most (I'd say all but, I guess I don't know the smaller ones) Abrahamic relgions are. Only by deliberately ignoring the messages of hate and violence in their holy books do you get an accepting religious community. That's why when people say "x abrahamic relgion is the relgion of peace" I can't help but have a laugh in my head. Sure Jan.
PSYCHOSHTICK 3,047
Spoiler Usually i'm not that involved in the gay community and try to kind of avoid it in some ways. I am proud and everything, but I don't go to gaypride (even though i'm born and raised in Amsterdam) and I don't go to gaybars anymore. I prefer to be on my own in that way. But stuff like this just makes me sick, I literally feel nauseous. I also feel sad (it might sound tacky, but I was just watching the Alejandro and Born This Way video and started to cry quietly ), with that I also feel angry and afraid. I'm afraid to go out now. I was planning to travel to New York City all by myself in august, but i'm not even sure if that's a smart move. We've travelled a long way for equality and peace, but i'm realizing that there are still a lot of bad people out there who don't like us at all. Sorry for this long post, but I don't where else I can express my feelings on this.

Islam is the driving force for violence nowadays, everyone so quick to blame everything else but the religion... An extremist Jain would rather die than harm a fly, it's a testimony to the ideology of Jainism... If you have extremist islam equates to violence, what does that say about the religion... truly ignorant people in this thread... Exactly! Nobody is attacking a person for identifying themselves as a Muslim, but the actual religion I think needs to be questioned when you have an alarming amount of them committing these horror acts in the name of ALLAH, for ALLAH. My thing is. Why can't we talk about both. I always end up in the middle on this issue. Every time an incident like this happens we see Obama only mention gun control and the Republicans only mention Islam. I wish both could find common ground. I can't imagine how we're gonna solve any issue without understanding how it came about. And when you're then going to make statements like "that's the entire culture" Just make a decision. Either you don't care about history, meaning you refrain from making any statements about Islamic culture, or you do and you educate yourself. There's no middle ground. Well, I actually agree with you there I personally have a hard time too with people who say these things have nothing to do with Islam, or that Islam is a blameless religion. That's just going in the other extreme, which is equally wrong and misguided. Things are more complicated than that. Islam is involved, Mohammad's teachings are in some places unambiguously violent, and we know beyond doubt he engaged in blatantly violent behavior, and promoted it as a model for his followers. Speaking of an "Islam" as if it's one uniform religion is stupid anyway, no matter in what direction you spin it, negative or positive. Both arguments are completely dumbing down the conversations we should be having.
