"Gaga is not necessarly what I am"

I mean I don't know what you guys expect from her, Lady Gaga is literally a public persona she created for her performance art. I'm sure she lives a completely normal life in her free time, and is it so bad if her family/friends call her Stefani?

'Lady Gaga' is an image, a brand if you will, that Stefani created to express herself through music, fashion, art, etc. Yes, it's definitely 'her' because she's the one making all of the artistic decisions but there are more sides to her than performance art. I'm sure her private life is very different than her public life.

You know... In every interview I've watched with her, Gaga is always 100% in control of the conversation.. It was such a pleasure to watch Jamie Lee school her on what it takes to be a spontaneous, giving actor. You can see Gaga light up while this Hollywood veteran gives her priceless advice.

I'm seriously starting to think she's having some kind of major identity crisis.

No, but I feel like 90% of her fans are experiencing an identity crisis vicariously through her.

You can never truly know someone fully, wether they are an artist or not. I mean do we even understand ourselves completely?

What she's expressing makes total sense to me. Gaga became something that was taken from her and used by other people as a brand or to describe things that are not true to her. Also she is so open showing so many sides of herself, making fans connect to her for many different reasons. So what is truly 'Gaga' to one fan, can be totally different to another. There's nothing wrong with it untill the media for example try to fit her in a box, 'determine' what is Gaga, and create false expectations that could limit her artistically.

I think it's telling for AHS she was billed as Lady Gaga, this to me means she's very connected to this name, not just as her musical persona, because she kept using it as an actress. I expected her to be a lead actress under her birth name, so this was a suprising move to me.

According to Gaga I'm a ****ing rad bitch

'What I am as Gaga really is at this moment what other people think Gaga is, it's not necessarly what I am.'

She's talking about other people's perception of Gaga. Later she says 'I'm 100% Stefani. I'm 100% Gaga.'

The problem is in the reading comprehension of most readers tbh... she is Gaga, she always will be, it's who Stefani is... The Gaga that she is just isn't the Gaga that everyone wants/expects/believes her to be, so there are practically two Gaga's... the real one and The Fame one that everyone wants back but she has evolved from

WHAT? Reasonable explanations?!

I get what she's saying, and it makes sense. She's saying people make her into something she is not. At the same time it feels like she herself is starting to become confused with who she is. She used to say that gaga is her and she thought  that it was a weird question when people asked her who gaga was. However, now, it's basically David Bowie 100 percent. David Bowie invented Ziggy Stardust, and I'm starting to realize stefani invented gaga the exact same way. It's noble she sounds like she is being truthful now about it but it's also saddening to those that fell in love with the character that is gaga. It is rightfully so because she made it seem that gaga was no more than a nick name and was her true self

True-est thing I've read on GGD in ages.  This includes fans and their graven golden gaga images.

One thing I love about Gaga is she knows when she is still a student.  People calling her pretentious miss this part of her completely.

The posts you reference involve understanding context. Much of this fanbase operates on sound bites.

It's not fair to report only these few words. She gave a good answer. You should really watch the interview before dragging her.

It seems like having a meltdown hit thread is the thing now btw

This 100% :applause:

It is a little sad to me though that the fiery girl with a passion for fantasy who cried "this is who I AM" for 3 years, is now telling us that it was all put on to generate attention, and a sense of inner confidence. I don't want to believe that Gaga isn't real. I don't want her to go back to being plain old Stefani wearing martini-glass-flats and high waisted mom-jeans. My brain is starting to reject this transition more and more, and I'm trying to tell it that it's okay, this is happening, deal with it, people change, she's growing up now... but it still sucks, and I still feel sad, and I'm starting to feel like a good friend of mine has gone away :S

(And just to clarify, I'm not having a meltdown over the quotes in this interview. It's my reaction to an ongoing observation I've been having regarding her personality and life)

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

CallMe

"Gaga is this stronger individual part of myself that I discovered being young in New York"

And this is why so many monsters are having a hard time dealing with what she became, we idolized someone who made every thing  look planned and we idolized someone who used to seem untouchable, unreachable and from another planet. People who became fans of Gaga between 2009-2013 didn't become fans of her because of how reliable she was, but because of how reckless and careless she was : her ability to be this strong persona made us believe in ourselves (at least it did for me), I admit that I heavily relied on her voice to become my own voice. And seeing her as more human now can be really hard after all of that.
