Bernie Supporters Would Choose Trump Over Hillary

If you're feeling the Bern, emerging polls show you might rather Make America Great Again, rather than stand with Her. 

The latest data shows 30-40% of Bernie supporters would stay home or vote for Trump rather than vote for Hillary, as many Bernie supporters are still vehement and firm that they do not want an establishment candidate, and Trump might have more in common with Bernie in their larger focus and ideal.

That statistic seems misleading because those Bernie supporters might not want to vote for either candidate - choosing to stay home.

Trump would be a disaster. I understand the appeal in wanting to send a message that you are done with establishment politics but Trump is honestly just evil. You don't want to vote Hillary because you don't want to condone her establishment politics, but why would you want to condone his policies?

If you don't feel like either candidate represents you then vote 3rd party. If you're a Bernie supporter why not vote  Jill Stein? She is likely closer to your positions than Hillary or Trump

-Trade

-Super Pacs

-Healthcare

-Trans Rights (probably gay rights too)

-TPP

-Anti War

-Breaking Up Banks 

-Tax Relief for Youth/Low Income 

-Higher Education Debt Forgiveness

I'm a Bernie supporter but COME ON. Trump? He's the opposite of Bernie. Hillary is sort of the middle ground. Why go from one end of the spectrum to the complete other? That's just ridiculous.

I think Bernie & Trump's populist ideas are what draws a large portion of their voter base and it's those shared values that would draw voters from Bernie to Trump (apart from the whole outsider thing).

But I have a feeling a lot of Bernie supporters will end up voting Hillary. I think threats like this get thrown around each presidential cycle (see Hillary vs. Obama), but I think most people will tend to vote along with their party identification, although I think this time a larger percentage might cross party lines when they finally make it to the voting booth.

Trump has already shown that he doesn't care about corruption or broken systems if it benefits him.
Trump has said he won't break up the big banks and is against Dodd Frank.

Trumps position on Taxes is more cuts for the top 1%. The non-partisan Tax Policy Center analyzed Trump’s proposal and, in addition to putting its price tag at $9.5 trillion over 10 years, found the biggest gains would go to taxpayers like Trump. For the top 1 percent of earners, the average reduction in their tax bill would be 11.8 percent, about $275,000, while for the top 0.1 percent it would be 12.5 percent and $1.3 million. For the bottom 20 percent of earners, their tax bill would be reduced by just 0.9 percent and $128 and 2.8 percent and $969 for the next highest 20 percent.

On the costs of Higher education frankly even Hillary is a better choice. Trump's plan would hurt low income families and destroy any chance of them getting an education. His plan would mean that fewer students are able to go to college, and poorer and racial minority students have fewer educational opportunities.

Trump wants Colleges to prioritise students who are likely to be highly employable. Rather than the federal government being the sole guarantor of publicly provided and guaranteed loans, the higher education institutions themselves would share in the costs if a student defaulted.

While this might sound okay in theory, it means that institutions would be more likely to shy away from enrolling students from disadvantaged families, and those whose academic preparation was weaker. Over a third of all undergraduates receive Pell Grants, the federal assistance program for students from low- and moderate-income families.

Such a move would exacerbate the large gaps in college enrollment and degree attainment that already exist in this country. It would lead to even higher rates of income inequality across income and racial groups.

Just because Trump said Caitlin Jenner could use any bathroom she wanted to in Trump towers doesn't mean he is good for LGBT rights.

"I just don't feel good about it. I don't feel right about it. I'm against it… I'm opposed to gay marriage."

His list of supreme court justice nominees are also people who WILL try to take down same-sexxx marriage and he would appoint someone to do so.

It's like, why are you actually following trump if you don't believe in what he REALLY means  (And more so, how are you not hearing what hes ACTUALLY saying! Hillary's "These are all direct quotes" drag comes to mind  )

Bernie and Trump are leagues apart and in a general election Bernie would destroy Trump if he had the chance to beat Hillary

They can't take down same-sexxx marriage by themselves, there's only one nomination to be made at this point. Hillary's nominees would be much worse anyhow, because they would probably try to reverse Heller.

Well yes, no one supreme court nominee is going to strike down a ruling  (Though the reason that nomination is even still up atm is absolutely childish bs politics, lets be honest  ). There are several justices that are nearing retirement age though atm, so if elected he would have the chance to probably fill all of those vacancies with ultra conservatives which could be catastrophic for tons of important social issues currently facing us, those in the past (roe v wade for example) and the many in the future. It's a big threat actually.

Anyway, you don't live here so Heller being reversed won't affect you at all . That being said, I know Hillary doesn't agree with it, but its not a purely split progressive-conservative issue, I have trouble believing it would be an even split, MANY if not most progressives do believe on some level that people have a right to carry and own guns  (in other words, idk if Sotomayer, Kagan, or RGB would definitively vote one way or another on it just because they happen to be progressives, so its up in the air.) Gun ownership is not a black and white issue, Gun regulation is, and even then (at least amongst the Democrats) there is major disagreement about HOW to regulate guns and by how much. The Republicans are pretty much a united front of "No", which is great for politics  

What would actually be beneficial is taking down Citizens United and the Dickey clause, the latter of which wont happen while the Republicans in the house are so stubborn and won't even listen to reason
