Sanders: I'm Heading to the Convention Even If Clinton Sweeps CA, NJ

Bernie Sanders reaffirmed Sunday that he is not planning to accept defeat in the primary race until the Democratic Party’s convention in July, regardless of the outcome of the June 7 primaries, which include delegate-rich California and New Jersey.

Talking to reporters before an event in East Oakland, California, Sanders preemptively rejected any declarations about Hillary Clinton as the presumptive nominee untilsuperdelegates vote in Philadelphia at the party's convention later this summer, even if she passes the threshold for delegates needed, as she likely will, next week.

The Sanders campaign has said for months that it intends to fight until the national party meets in Philadelphia, even if Sanders does not have a take the lead in pledged delegates. However, until recently, the Vermont senator has also consistently contended he will pass her on that front. These days the senator talks about the momentum he will have going into Philadelphia. Sanders comments today were also notable as they come so late in the game, just a week before June 7, and as Clinton stands on the verge of securing the number of delegates needed for the nomination.

Makes sense. Still a long time to go before November. Bernie staying in for a few more weeks is not a big deal. Plus, we don't know what's going to happen with the FBI.

Lol no it doesn't make sense.

He can do what he wants. It won't affect anything, and frankly his influence on the DNC is only decreasing as the convention draws near because he's losing any leverage he has. And no his supporters aren't leverage because they're not a cult, as much as they paint themselves out to be.

I like Bernie's ideas in theory so I actually don't want that, but he can do what he wants. Every day he's making himself look more like a fool. He's losing credibility by spades. They're only accommodating him because they still want to take the easiest path to rally his supporters.

He'll be forgotten the day after the convention regardless. His political career is basically over.

Easy to say this now when he's still in the race.

This means nothing. He's done for. It's not going to be pretty to watch. His supporters are fair-weather friends. He has lost all political support thanks to his antics against the Democrats, ironically the ones who have supported his career despite his hypocritical trashtalking. He won't have anything going for him other than "two million twitter followers".

By that measure, any youtuber can be powerful in the Senate  

It's fine. He and Trump can co-host a political talk show called "Angry Old Men Yell At Clouds".

Having an online following and national profile is very helpful for a senator for fundraising and getting attention to the issues you want to. Most americans would struggle to name more than one or two senators, but everyone knows Bernie. He is loved by the left, and respected by the right.

This is the first time he explicitly outlined that he doesn't care about the results of CA and NJ so it's not something "we've been knowing".

That is all. There's no need to resort to this kind of posting MP. Disappointed.

Don't call other people's posts pointless just because you don't agree with them, please.

He's always said he'd stay in until the end no matter the results so we kinda did know this.
