Death is something that can't be meddled with. It's not something we can decide to inflict upon someone for doing a bad thing because it's just so... Fatal. Death is more punishment for the families and friends of the person who committed the crime, imo. Once they die their punishment is over and it's more or less shifted onto their loved ones. I have experience watching someone I love get arrested and locked up- it's heart wrenching. If I had to watch that person die it'd be worse. And I'd be the one bearing the butt end of that "punishment" because the person they tried to punish isn't even here anymore to see the pain they caused. People let their anger get the best of them. We see someone commit an abhorrent crime and we try to match the intensity with an abhorrent punishment. So if you really want to pay less for a murderer, you'd support life imprisonment over the death sentence. Obviously child rape--rape in general is completely wrong and disgusting and perpetrators of such a vile act should be dealt with. Research findings suggest pedophilia is a mental illness; there are cases of pedophiles who are aware their sexual urges are wrong and actively struggle to act against them. I don't know this a dicey subject. I'd say prison time accompanied by therapy and treatment to teach these people to deal with their urges would be a better solution, idk this is tough, man.
