The reason why Washington (and Nebraska, etc.) have a Primary System is due to a law that says that if 1 party has a Primary (GOP), the other must have one as well. The Democratic Parties of these states decided to make their Caucus system the one that "counts" and so that's why we have this. This victory doesn't really mean much, but it does make one question the validity and relevance of the Caucus system in the context of today's political climate. The Primaries in both of these states had a higher turnout than the Caucuses because the latter discriminates against the elderly, disabled, and others who physically can't be there at the voting sites. Lion Heart 15,041 Posted May 25, 2016 Author Share Posted May 25, 2016 Sometime around last week, Hillary picked up 12 Super Delegate endorsements (Bernie got 2) so the total delegate count is now: Hillary 2305 Bernie 1539 Hillary only needs 78 delegates to clinch to nomination. She needs 650 to "clinch the nomination", so she won't reach the 2,400 needed to secure the nomination. We'll be headed into a contested convention. The 2,4000 delegate "nomination" does not include super-delegates. She's pretty much secure in the lead so there isn't much to contest. She'll inevitably declared the winner by most news outlets and political groups after the primaries on the 7th.
