He was still touring but on his own terms and putting out music on his own terms, very avant garde artist He is beyond acclaimed for his musical brilliance. Most stars in their later years aren't talked about as much in the public commercial domain, and that includes Michael Jackson for years, except his personal scandals, and Madonna, if she weren't out there trying to be relevant and often failing with her try-hardiness these days to keep her in the news. He had so much musical talent that it is mindblowing, and that's why he is being remembered in such a way. People would show up to his concerts and put up with whatever he wanted to do because he was so respected. He didn't try to be commercially accepted with his albums. He just did his thing in his later years, unlike Madonna desperate with her last few albums, and failing. That is the sign of a true artist, creating to your muse, not jumping on bandwagons, instead making the music you want to. He was still considered hip and relevant in his sphere. He would walk into a room and turn jaded celebs and musicians to mush. The same for Bowie and why there was such an outpouring of grief over him for months. It is what these two artists created, their musical legacy, their individuality. Amazing summary. Prince released an album per year on average and has over 1000 unreleased songs. I'm sure commercial success wasn't his primary concern.

Though I'm not Madonna's biggest fan, when I first heard she was going to do the tribute I just sighed because I already knew there would be lot's of hate towards it. For goodness sake, she was his friend. I haven't seen it so I wouldn't know, but even if her singing and dancing was off, the point is that we're all paying homage to a legend. It was the same when Gaga did the Bowie tribute. There was just no question she was the perfect person to tribute him. He inspired her career and her as a person so much. I have no idea why so many people have to inspire so much ****ing negativity all the time and try to bring everybody else down. Everyone in this society tries to be so critical of every little tiny thing. Just shut up, sit back and politely clap every once in a while, complain about it to your friends. So many people tweeted and directed hate directly towards Madonna herself just seconds after it was announced that she was doing the tribute, whilst she was grieving. It's actually sick. Fine if you didn't like it, I'm not saying you can't have an opinion. Just make sure that you're hating it, and disliking her, for the right reasons. I so wish Fitzgerald was alive today to satirise the sh!t out of these hateful, instantly gratified people. It just seems that in today's society actually having respect is too neutral and boring to even think about being attempted. It's disgraceful and plain sad. If you don't have shadows you're not standing in the light.
Ciccone Madonna 1,362
Madonna was great. Only a madonna level legend should have tributed Prince. Typical haters of Madonna s legacy can take a sit, even in this forum.

Schwerk 7,290
So over this shady music industry and the press that feeds it. I mean, seriously? People need to sit their ass down when it comes to tributes. They are deeply personal and therefor it is nothing but rude to judge them this way. To me it's like judging someone's speech at a funeral. Madonna did it the way she saw fit, and did the best she could. That makes this tribute deserve respect, even if it's not your personal taste. According to Gaga I'm a ****ing rad bitch

To me it was The general atmosphere, costume, song choices (lyrics), Steve, and partly singing too as I respect rawness too (at least much more than lipping) + that it clearly mentca lot to M on personal lvl which shine through even some rough Notes here and there. And you are totally wrong, many actual News outlets liked it and there's plenty receipts! Its just Stan forums and twitter that is making noice. Yeah thats what this stupid hating is, just noice. It was her tribute, a TRIBUTE for a dead friend. Others may feel free to do their own tributes. Obvious you are entitled to have an opinion of it, but I just think this hating is a bit silly considering it was a tribute... I doubt Prince would approve this hating. Having less co-writers doesn't make you better 4)Obviously this is just my opinion and he might be a talented person. But in terms of legacy he is NOTHING compared to Madonna or Michael. again that's your opinion, their musicianship doesn't match Prince. When Madonna kicks the bucket we shall see what her legacy is going to be like... you say you're not impressed with Prince, but he has been noted as the 18th greatest song writer of all time. He placed ahead of Jackson and Madonna. Your problem is like most people problems, you're a stan for your favorite artist! And they can do no wrong in your eyes. However, madonna is not a great singer! I have tapes showing Prince vocal ability; which is way greater then Madonna

I am just saying that he wasn't as special as people want him to be now that he died.Madonna doesn't really have a big vocal range or much power in her voice but her music was ALWAYS interesting and the tone of her voice is very beautiful 3)EVERYTHING ABOUT MUSIC IS AN OPINION.Stop saying that over and over again. Showing him the upmost respect. Beyoncé, pink, Natasha bedingfield, Erica badu, stieve, Madonna, quest, game, Magic Johnson, will smith, lil Kim, missy Elliott, queen latifah and so many more! You don't understand the impact that man had on so many people. It not about who continues to shine in the publics eyes that man stayed true to himself. Which is why when he walked in a room people stood on their feet until he said please be seated. He sold more records in the first week of his death then Michael did! He was the most bootlegged artist of the 80ds... He wrote hits for many of his contemporaries of the 80s. people went to Prince for a hit, he was the ghostwriter of that decade. This is not a Luther vandross or a rick James or David Bowie death, Prince was larger then life
