JusKeepBreathin 19,311
Shady politics Bernie #moreBSpolitics Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has requested an extension for filing his personal financial disclosure report, which would delay the filing until after the final Democratic primary votes are cast. The campaign confirmed the request, noting the rigors of the campaign schedule. <--- "As the senator has noted, Jane does their taxes, and they've been a tad bit busy," campaign spokeswoman Symone Sanders told The Hill. The Center for Public Integrity's Dave Levinthal first reported the extension, tweeting an image of the letter to the Federal Election Commission (FEC), which also cited "Senator Sanders' current campaign schedule." A 45-day extension would bump the deadline from May 15 to the end of June, well after the final votes are cast on June 7 in California. <---(shady shady shady.) All presidential candidates are required to file the disclosure once they declare a presidential bid and annually, so this report would update on the period between his entry into the race and the end of the calendar year. The decision comes after Sanders released his 2014 tax returns but bucked calls to release any more. Jane Sanders, his wife, told CNN this week the candidate would release more returns if Hillary Clinton released transcripts of her paid speeches. http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/presidential-races/278092-sanders-asks-for-extension-on-financial-disclosure-forms "Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity." -Martin Luther King Jr.

If she we're such a leader maybe she would set the standard herself and release them if she has nothing to hide...the fact that she can't is damning. For starters this was a private event in which she was invited to speak. She was paid a very high sum because of her illustrious career as a First Lady to a president, Senator, Secretary of State, and candidate for the US presidency vs Obama. Naturally, when invited to events like these, you thank the hosts profusely and praise them. You don't denigrate them. You praise them for their efforts and highlight their virtues, that do exist mind you. You never say anything negative towards them. That's rudeness. Do you disagree? So what implication can anyone draw really? She's well aware that all her praising remarks would be taken out of context as her supporting them, even when a quick look at her policies show no legislation that benefits them. Even Sanders could not pinpoint one. Another reason she hasn't released them is because it's very out of the ordinary to release private speech transcripts, and frankly could set a precedent for even deeper invasions of privacy. Yes these people are running for president but there are limits. What next? You ask them for phone transcripts? Emails? (). What makes Sanders have the right to require her to release something on his terms? Nothing. ---- Tax returns though? Those have always been released because they are one of the few FACTUAL ways you can assess a candidate with no bias. These show your finances and how you conduct business. There is no potential for misunderstanding. It's purely factual information that shows EXACTLY what you do and how you do it. Those are far more destructive. Edited just now by LebaneseDude. Hillary clinton's worst trait in the public eye is transparency and honesty. Her second most criticized trait is her tie to wall street. By all means, it is in her best interest to release them to treat these stigmas...and she just won't...why not...what motive could she have to keep them concealed? The only people worried about Bernie's taxes are Hillary supporters trying deflect the attention from Hillary's gigantic elephant in the room. The only people worried about Bernie's taxes are Hillary supporters trying deflect the attention from Hillary's gigantic elephant in the room. I don't disagree about her lack of transparency. That's her biggest flaw, a state she naturally adopted after years of GOP-fueled attacks on her. She was actually quite quippy at first, but then she made one statement when questioned about why she was being such an "active" First Lady as opposed to being a traditional wife (this was a while ago). She said "I suppose I could stay home and bake cookies". That spawned such a huge outrage that she became more careful about what she said. Add scandal after scandal and eventually she distrusted the press a lot. She needs to work on that. I agree. To her credit, she has where it counts. Honesty however is something many conflate with lack of transparency. She's actually the most honest candidate in the race: http://www.politifact.com/personalities/hillary-clinton/ http://www.politifact.com/personalities/bernie-s/ Not gonna bother with Trump Overall she averages out to be as honest as Bernie in proportion. But she has told far more complete truths. It's just that her nature as someone who lacks transparency makes her seem untrustworthy. That's a natural reaction, but it's still a wrong one, because it assumes everything you don't say is supposed to be relevant information. ------- Well it's often said that it's better to let people form their own conclusions than show them something and have them twist it to fit their own agenda. Hillary knows that no matter what, someone will find fault with the speeches and exploit them. Do you not see how that can happen? Better for people to simply not know. And frankly, it's none of their business what happens at private events. This is quite a random request. As I said, why not ask Sanders to release his phone records then? It's literally the same thing. She hasn't, because it would set a dangerous precedent. ----- And no, not releasing your tax returns implies far sketchier issues because not only can there be something actually illegal, those are actual proof of financial activities. Those are the very same financial activities that people ASSUME Hillary conducts because she apparently gave high price speeches (for a living I might add) to big businesses. Well...how do you hold a speech in equal value to physical proof of financial activity? You don't. You can't assume she's in bed with big banks because of a typical praise-laden speech, yet let Bernie off the hook for not releasing his financial documentation. Also the claim of misdirection is unfair. This is ACTUALLY a requirement. Hillary has already released hers. Why hasn't Sanders? It's odd, and a little bit hypocritical considering his requested extension lands it after the major primaries in June. Ignoring Hillary completely, isn't this sort of lack of transparency at least a bit worrisome for you? Edited just now by LebaneseDude.

What i'm saying is that in terms of public opinion, no matter what you say - these transcripts are incredibly more damning to the common american and as such is weighted more when it affects the outcome of how voters view her. It's dramatic and entertaining - far more than a tax return. Look at Trump, who has NEVER released a tax return - shouldn't the discussion be directed at him since everyone is already convinced Hillary's locked down the nom? Well I don't think you should be using Trump for any metric. He's such an oddity I suppose you are right that the "mysteriousness" of the speeches add some sort of entertainment value for people that keep them on their toes, especially when people are looking for ways to justify Hillary's "corruption". I wasn't thinking about it that way. Hmm. Interesting. I can see that happening for the tax returns soon, to an admittedly lesser effect. Hillary will no doubt keep pressing the issue lowkey, although she'll refrain from going negative on him as she always has because she needs his supporters. Oh and yeah Hillary has already released two ads questioning Trump about his tax returns. She hasn't actually done much on Bernie. Edited just now by LebaneseDude. "She doesn't have to show the transcripts" neither does Bernie with his tax returns - hell Trump's never once given any of his. The fact remains that Bernie has shown his 2014 return with others to follow - he's announced they are coming and you will see them - something Hillary won't do with the transcripts. Bernie has shown no reasons/evidence/behavior to be accused of fraudulent returns, yet Hillary's ties with Wall St and issues with transparency give the american people every reason to think she is hiding something/feed into the belief that she is "corrupt." If what you seriously believe is true, and nothing is wrong with her transcripts then releasing them would be a golden opportunity for her to set the record straight....except she just can't seem to do it. THAT is shady.
