This is hilariously ironic given the fact she showed her ignorance about HIV history after praising Reagan a few months ago.

So she had one ****up, which she promptly apologized for and used to further increase awareness about HIV garnering immediate praise from LGBT groups after the fact, and that immediately disqualifies all her other efforts regarding HIV which span over 30 years.

Good to know this is the kind of reasoning that will dictate the presidency.

Ah I see. The criminalization that is being referred to isn't necessary legal.

From a legal perspective, HIV/AIDs has a certain taboo about it that makes ruling against them to be disproportionately harsh or severe.

From a societal perspective, HIV/AIDs is still being looked down upon and that's what Hillary addressed in the video.

Then there's the often forgotten self-criminalization. HIV/AIDs is treated disproportionately more harshly by society despite it being neither contagious or airborne. There's a certain stigma that makes people less likely to want to confront it, and potential victims less likely to want to deal with it or get tested for it etc...

All of these factor into the HIV-specific criminalization that must be ended. Clearly there are certain factors that we discussed. Those should be the exceptions, not the rules.

Again... I'm now even more confused. HIV is still a deadly disease is you aren't rich, or have a ridiculous amount of government assistance. And again, you refuse to name the actual legislation you or Hillary wants overturned.

If it was deliberate, that's assault.

Anyways, I don't buy this "criminalization of HIV". If you sleep with someone, don't inform them of your positive HIV status and end up infecting them, you should be punished for that with jail.

Unless it's rape or forced, you should hold responsibility for your body. Its 2016, you know the risks of all STDs. Do what you have to do to protect yourself from HIV, it's not like there isn't a plethora of information at your fingertips these days. Don't act like this law actually helps anybody, because by the time someone is convicted BOTH people involved have HIV. It solves and prevents nothing.

If I chose to have bare back sex with you, it IS your responsibility to speak up and say "hey, just fyi, I have an STD, so maybe we should re-thinking not using protection" If I want to have sex bareback, that's my prerogative, but that doesn't give anyone the right to hide from me they have an STD. If you fcvk me, then infect me, you better believe I'm going to make sure you're punished

Where did Hillary mention overturning legislation? It's fighting the stigma more than the law, in which the former leads to disproportionately harsher sentencing when dealing with the latter.

Here are some examples:

A man with HIV in Texas is serving thirty-five years for spitting at a police officer;

A man with HIV in Iowa, who had an undetectable viral load, received a twenty-five year sentence after a one-time sexual encounter during which he used a condom; his sentence was suspended, but he had to register as a sex-offender and is not allowed unsupervised contact with his nieces, nephews and other young children;

A woman with HIV in Georgia received an eight-year sentence for failing to disclose her HIV status, despite the trial testimony of two witnesses that her sexual partner was aware of her HIV positive status;

A man with HIV in Michigan was charged under the state's anti-terrorism statute with possession of a "biological weapon" after he allegedly bit his neighbor. -

-----

HIV is not spread through saliva, yet apparently you earn 35 years for spitting at an officer?

You can be unaware of having HIV due to the incubation period, but can receive a 25 year sentence? How is this not blatantly unfair? A sex poffender as a makeup? How disgusting

You can disclose your status but still be considered guilty if your partner is jilted and bullshits making you lose?

Biting a police officer = prosecuted for anti-terrorism laws with "possession if biological weapon"..? Last i checked biting draws their blood not yours.

-----

There is a clear stigma that surrounds HIV. Stop downplaying it.

----

Also what you said is categorically untrue. You don't need to be rich to treat HIV at all. This isn't the 1990s.

Her mistake is indicative of her ignorance on the subject. I give the people behind her credit for knowing how to sweep it around the rug as soon and effectively as they did but given her record on the LGBT community as it is.... I can tell she doesn't give a crap about us. Just our vote.

Ignorance of what subject? You reprimanding her for not having a masters in the history of AIDS? She said they sparked a conversation. What she didn't mention that it was a negative one. This was a clear mistake due to a statement done on the fly but it was an oversight nothing more nothing less. It's not like she outright said they were supporters.

Please tell me you're kidding regarding her support of the LGBT community? She may not have a perfect history but she's done more than you're implying. While she may have been late on embracing the LGBT ideologies in full, she has always been a supporter. Are you going to quote same-sex marriage as if she didn't endorse civil unions with full benefits like the overwhelming majority of Americans did back then? Are you also implying that her shift in stance position from two different declarations over the course of 7+ years from 2007 to 2013 was a sudden one as opposed to a continuous one?

Frankly your view is entirely too narrow. Hillary has supported Human Rights as a whole and that includes LGBT rights even if it's not always explicitly mentioned.

Giving a voice to the vulnerable and marginalized. Hillary Clinton launched an assistance fund for embattled nongovernmental organizations that supported much needed “legal representation, communication technologies like cell phones and internet access, and other forms of quick support.” She appointed the first Special Advisor for International Disability Rights to increase protection for “one group of people whose human rights are still denied in too many parts of the world today. In many ways, they are an invisible minority.” As Secretary of State, she spoke out against regimes who arbitrarily detain and arrest artists, activists, lawyers, and intellectuals in their countries.

Advocating globally for LGBT rights. Hillary Clinton championed LGBT rights internationally and declared to the world that gay rights are human rights and human rights are gay rights. In partnership with other countries, she worked to support LGBT advocacy and pass the first United Nations resolution highlighting “the human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons.” As Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton forcefully spoke out against violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and denounced countries who criminalize homosexuality.

For Christ's sake...this was in front of the UN. It's historic. She had nothing to gain from it politically. It sparked a debate worldwide.

Setting an example internationally. Hillary Clinton helped set an international example by participating in the U.N. Universal Periodic Review of America’s human rights record, stating, “By holding ourselves accountable, we reinforce our moral authority to demand that all governments adhere to obligations under international law.” Hillary also included the U.S. for the first time in a country report on human trafficking and helped launch a website to provide NGOs, scholars, and citizens with “information they need to hold governments accountable.”

Continuing work to make human rights a human reality. When Hillary Clinton was asked what was next for her, she said, “I would go back to being a voice for the voiceless, standing up against conditions that just leech the life out of children and oppress women and prevent people from fulfilling their God-given potential.” In 2013, Hillary was honored by Jeb Bush for her public service and dedication “to serving and engaging people across the world in democracy.” She outlined a vision for the future where the U.S. can “show the world that free people and free markets, human rights and human dignity, respect for our fellow men and women, is our core strength.” Hillary launched efforts to address the “unfinished business of the 21st century” – seeking women’s full participation in society – and give future generations of Americans a chance at success.

----

Doubt her all you want. Don't even try attacking her on human rights. That's been her life goal, even if she didn't always have the full picture.

Wrong! It's not the innocent person's job to assume everyone has an STD, it's the guy with the STD's job to tell people instead of infecting them!

So typical for people to latch onto one mistake to generalize one's entire character.

I won't comment on your circumstantial evidence, but spitting on a police officer is assault on a police officer. THAT is why that man is serving that long for his conviction.

And yes, if you have HIV it still takes thousands of dollars a year to treat. I know because I have HIV + friends, so you don't need to tell me.

Well ignoring the fact that this law is particularly hilariously disproportionate in its punishment (equating spitting with actual assault), the typical sentencing is 10-20 years, not 35.

Oh ok thousands of dollars is a lot of money but you don't have to be rich to get that money. It definitely messes up your finances if you aren't well off though. This is an awkward subject so I'll just drop this point.
