No offence but, I thought everyone thought "overrated" meant "they're so successful and praised but I personally don't understand where that love comes from." I didn't think I needed to explain what the word meant as I thought everyone held the same definition. I also thought it was a given that everything people said was an opinion. I just think that if anyone but me had posted this topic, there would not be this misunderstanding or hostility, but that's another story.

So, what artists do you think are overrated, based on that definition?

Well, I'd say Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Drake and Justin Bieber :saladga:

(and maybe Adele because of her enormous sales but at least her music has quality :madge:)

And a whole bunch of country artists. The majority of a country album is the most blandest time of your life and yet, country critics give out A reviews like nobodie's business.

Which country artists do you listen to?

Every one that I've tried to listen to suffers from this problem. Even the better ones can only manage a half decent album because at least half is always bland and forgettable. And it all merges together so they all sound the same. But they get A grades from country critics as a matter of course. I don't think I've ever seen genre specific critics that are so easily pleased.

Exactly. That's what an opinion is - your feelings, regardless of how others think of them. Do you really think pithy little digs like this are funny? Or original? Just so you know, saying this kind of stuff makes no difference. The only thing it does is give the person who said it a bit of jumped-up self-importance.

No, I don't. I've said it numerous times. Opinion is opinion. Fact is fact. If I'm saying this is my opinion, then I think it's exactly that. Myself and plenty of others just don't feel the need to take the spineless approach of having to write "In my opinion" at the end of every sentence. When the discussion is music, it's a given that every word someone says relating to the quality is nothing more than opinion. It's even in my disclaimer. So, I've laid it down bare for you, no way to misinterpret it. So, no more accusations of anything to the contrary, comprende? It makes you look really dim when you still can't take in something that's already been clarified multiple times. I don't know about you, but I'd be so embarrassed if I'd got someone so wrong and made false accusations about them.

I can see that with all genres of music though. There's a wide range of country acts so I'm interested to hear which artists' albums you've listened to. And I disagree with the critics. Country music makes it seem like they all love each other, but they don't. There's a lot of corruption and money involved. Country fan here.
