Dozens of terrorism suspects among refugees who entered Germany

German authorities are investigating 40 cases in which Islamic militants are suspected of having entered the country with the recent flood of refugees from the Middle East, the federal police said on Wednesday.

That represents a doubling of such cases since January and is likely to deepen concerns about the threat level in Germany, which has not suffered a large-scale Islamist attack like those that have rocked neighbours France and Belgium in recent months.

In the past, the German government has played down the risks of Islamic State fighters entering Europe with the tide of migrants, in part to avoid exacerbating public concerns about the influx, which hit a record 1.1 million last year.

But the head of Germany's domestic intelligence agency Hans-Georg Maassen told a conference last week that although there were more efficient ways to smuggle in fighters, Islamic State appeared to have sent some via the Balkan route from Greece in order to fan fears about refugees and "send a political signal".

"I am not telling you a secret when I say that I am concerned about the high number of migrants whose identities we don't know because they had no papers when they entered the country," Maassen said.

Don't even.

These are important discussions to be had especially when they have their merits. Dismissing them out of hand is not the way to deal with matters and only leads to more divisiveness.

It's inevitable that there will be a few bad eggs. They are still the exception to the rule and should be treated as such. Proper precautions should still be taken.

Inevitable.. I was already wondering why this is barely reported on, almost leading me to think that there's no terrorists among them.

its pretty crazy how people can look at this and see that what they said was right but also can not see tha even though they were right, that the situation is still worrisome and deserves to be reported.

"dozens" is indeed a very very small minority out of the 1.1 million refugees that came to germany but even though the percentage is small, the fear is still very much justified. doesnt mean you should send them back, it just means we should let germans know " hey, be alert out there"

I mean, I wasn't talking to you, you just posted a thread with an article.

But it is so stupid to demonize refugees because of this... I mean, as if it had been a problem for terrorists to enter the countries before. As if they weren't already living here as citiziens. We can not demonize an entire group of people in need and desperate to run away for the same thing we are fighting because a terrorist could enter with them... a terrorist is going to enter if he wants to. And if they can't, there are already hundreds in every country. So, let's not use this to justify the fault of humanity in our society.

What we should worry about is the future. The future WE are creating with this attitude. The feelings we must be developing in the children who are watching what Europe is doing to them and their parents, who are dying in the ocean trying to get in here because they fear war, and no one wants to help them. This will explode in our faces in a few decades.

Well I didn't post this article.

Who was demonizing who though? This is nothing more than an objective statement that there are suspected terrorists among many refugees who entered.

You mean to imply that out of a million of documented and undocumented refugees who are in Germany today, there aren't a few dozen of them who are less than benevolent in their intentions?

Not every article criticizing a situation should be seen as an offensive attack on those being discussed. It is important to treat people with dignity and respect, but care should be afforded for everyone not just the few, and Germans should be made aware of the risks involved so they can be better prepared should something arise.

I do agree with your points, but I don't see how they are relevant.

99% of the people who spread this and use this as an argument have a clear intention.

Ok. There are terrorists enetering with refugees. So? What?

There are also terrorists living in here since years ago. What's the point of pointing that out?

What solutions can be proposed? Appart from the obvious one that is to stop refugees. Or take musilms away from our countries.

That's an ironic stereotype you're trying to enforce there.

What do you mean, "so what"? Terrorists are terrorists and proper precautions need to be taken so they don't harm anyone or anything. In trying to defend refugees, you're simultaneously belittling the concerns of the local population. The refugees are the ones intruding, and you can't tell the local populace to "suck it up" especially when they don't have to.

What you do is discuss these situations as rationally as you can to figure out the issues and root them out. You don't dodge them.

Nothing has to be done, but awareness goes a long way. What can be done is enforcing stricter entry and having refugees report those among them that are suspected to have malevolence in mind.

River

Let's pretend that nothing is happening and then when a terrorist that took advantage of the refugees difficult time will bomb himself and kill people, let's say "aw sad rip why it's happening stop"...

The reality is bad and unfortunately there is a minority among the refugees that can harm us and something needs to be done, it's not racism, it's not anti refugees, it's an important action for the security of the civilians AND the refugees.

Some dumbass politicians will take advantage of it of course and this is the point when you need to raise your voice and fight them.. just stop playing with people's life for the sake of political correctness..

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

Regulated immigration and good background check. People with no papers should specifically investigated.

That did work very well in the past while they were coming into Europe and the US through the regular ways to enter. Didn't it?

My point is not to defend anyone, I'm just pointing out that it is stupid to talk about this. It is obvious and nothing can be done. What are we going to do with the ones who enter in the country by using an airplane? Do we close our countries to everyone? Awareness for what? Everyone knows there are terrorists living here and that we are going to have attacks. Focus on reforcing security in the country and try to catch them before they do it instead of pointing out how they get in the country by creating a feeling of repulsion to a majority who are coming here to be safe like we have done in the past when wars were happening here. We don't have to suck it up? Yes, we have. Since that war is bassically our fault.

Suck it up, Europe

Papers should be checked by everyone who gets in and specifically those who don't have papers anymore.

i don't say we shouldn't let them in, it's just that there needs to be more work and regulation. And a a lot of integration courses.
