I didn't think there was any backing to these specific Trump claims of getting current Sanders supporters, but when I saw that yesterday I was pretty shocked. This doesn't mean it's going to be indicative for the entire nation, but I did think they were really interesting numbers and I can try to find the article/poll for you if you want. I think Sander's supporters really want change, and if there is something about Sanders that Trump also has is that they're both radically anti-establishment candidates challenging the status quo in profoundly radical ways. The amount of friction he has with establishment leaders is literally unprecedented. You cannot say he's an establishment candidate. And maybe his policies are not radically against the status quo like socialist sanders, but you have to at least admit that he is not your normal everyday candidate... The things he does and says are radically different from what you'd expect coming from a person who's running for president, and that's why a lot of people find him refreshing. In a state that is so engraved with the coal industry, it makes sense that working class families would not vote for Clinton. She herself made statements against coal workers, who depend on their jobs. The poll asked Sanders voters if they would vote for Hillary, Trump, or someone else. Obviously they aren't going to pick Clinton. Also, I find it hilarious that you say they're closet republicans when Clinton is a very right-leaning candidate herself. For West Virginia, so engraved in the coal industry, they aren't surprising. They aren't indicative of the nation, though. This is really just a specific case.
