Why ARTPOP is my favourite era

Ever since ARTPOP came out, I've felt a strong connection to it, more so than any of her other albums (although BTW comes close). I won't go into detail about why I like the songs themselves, because it's all subjective. I think most of the songs are great in their own way, but that's not the main reason why I connect to this album.

During that time in her life, Gaga was deeply depressed and creatively stifled. She was betrayed by close friends, faced a barrage of criticism for under-performing work, became a money-making machine, and had many issues behind the scenes such as the second single fiasco and the DWUW video. It seemed like the world was crashing down on the Gaga empire and for a while, it looked like the damage to her career was irreparable.

And yet... she battled through all of it like a champion. In her darkest time, she created a visually beautiful video with G.U.Y., and during the tour, she performed like the pop star we always knew and loved. She kept going despite everyone turning their back on her, including some of her fans. Even in mid-late 2014, she was still suffering from depression and was ready to quit music altogether. She has since said it was the hardest time of her life.

And yet... she still kept going. Through all the pain and heartbreak, she put on a brave face and gave each performance her absolute best. That is strength. That is the woman I fell in love with.

Not only that, but she has stood by ARTPOP and is proud of it as a piece of work. Even to this day, she references it lovingly and isn't trying to bury its existence. That's a testament to her strength - she didn't listen to all the noise telling her she was a failure. She stood by her art like a true artist.

So. While the other eras were more successful in what they set out to do, and generally had better fashion, themes, and uniformity, I think the big beautiful mess that it is ARTPOP was probably the most successful in showing us just how strong and brave Gaga really is. More than any other album, it makes me proud to have her as my hero. And that's why ARTPOP is my favourite era.

tl;dr: Gaga's a strong-ass motherfvcker.

I love judas SO MUCH but I canʹt look like a copycat of JLO!!!!

I couldn't agree more with you. This is the actual reason why I love ARTPOP Era more than any other.

I think only lady gaga could have been called a flop during the ARTPOP era if it was by any other pop star it would have been highlights of their pop careers. Gaga had SOOO much pressure to deliver BIG and she did but not to the towering heights of her previous works. The GP were fed up of gaga at that point and lost interest it was so sad at the time she had become too confusing and lost her brand identity. But I love the era looking back on it.

I really agree with you! ARTPOP is my favorite era (music/fashion/meanings speaking)! I love every part of it! I've never been that connected to an era ;)

I felt super connected to this album as well. Born This Way was a strong connection but I had already accepted myself so it was more of a support than a life saver. ARTPOP really helped me to find my crazy side and be okay with being weird/arty/badass. It's weird but ARTPOP filled my whole body while BTW filled my heart. TF/TFM were more an introduction into that unique/arty lifestyle.

I hope LG5 explores new parts of her and my brain.

Currently listening to Joanne

I think she definitely had a lot to live up to, but I think she knew that. The boos at the start of the VMAs performance, that video where it says ARTPOP will flop, and the tweets she did to promote DWUW show she was well aware of the criticism ARTPOP would receive. But ultimately nothing could prepare her for how bad it would get. She created an album/era that was too theatrical and 'art school' for the general public... and was unfairly victimised because she stuck to her guns. Still, she overcame it and performed amazingly during the Roseland shows and the artRAVE tour. I hope one day people will look back at ARTPOP as a daring risk rather than a failure. It might not have accomplished what she set out to achieve, but it was bold, brash and totally Gaga. I'm willing to bet money that there will be some fans wishing she would go back to that ultra-creative aesthetic when the new era comes around.

I totally agree that is how I look at it as well. Gaga showed the world that she is an artist underneath it all and she stuck to her guns. I'm so glad I stood by her during it. I loved ARTPOP I could never hate it cuz I appreciate it too much. I could see the artistic touch that Gaga made. Love Gaga forever and ever! ❤️❤️❤️
