HausOfNicole 177
I get why people don't like it. It's not a pretty song at all. It's ugly, rough, and mellow-dramatic. That's what I happen to love about it though. I love the forced deep vocal performance, the light electric production and the overall messiness of it. I think a lot of people miss the point of it, but it's completely understandable that it's not a fan favorite.
gagaohlala 815
Just doesn't fit ARTPOP. That's all. So I skip it. MJH > Gypsy Little Monster | Diamond | Cry Baby | Lana Del Rey

Personal on a far more specific level than anything Born This Way gave us Dope isn't a blanket statement, it's a well aimed sniper shot right through the heart. It's why the second verse will live on my arm forever I agree. {though no shade to BTW, still my fav album lol} 3 points in and ready for more

Ty3009 232
Definitely the vocals. I understand the artistic intent behind that style, raw and imperfect. But I'm not a fan of Gaga's dramatic throaty voice that she uses on Dope and parts of Til It Happens to You. It sounds unpleasant to me, even if it "fits" the tone/subject matter of the song. Otherwise, I would have loved Dope. I think it has some of the most beautiful and sad lyrics of her career. I can relate to it because of my experience as an addict. And the melody is very pretty. I guarantee it would be much more well-liked if she sang it in a different style.

Lucilla 1
Yoo that live version got me in tears "...drugs and alcohol. I've seen too many great artists go beacuse of those two things"
E24187 615
She exercised poor judgment in the selection of vocal delivery of the song. Plus the repetition of "I need you more than doooohhh" was lazy. I thought her "dope vocals" were fine in TIHTY (the lyrics to that song are pedestrian though)

ItsTommyBitch 12,640
Having relistened to the studio for the first time since 2014, it's not as bad as I remember. My main complaint is her pseudo-growling the high note in the chorus now Her best performance of it below shows how I would've wanted it to sound on the studio (With the same production ofc, I just mean her vocal delivery on here is ON POINT!) She still kind of slurred things here, but it was more tastefully done and her vibrato and pitch were just The chorus especially is magnificent. The DWUW performance on Alan Carr was ALSO on of the best performances of the ARTPOP era She still does the growl thing but 私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから
