The man was actually working out differential equations. The passenger must have thought the man was writing in Arabic. Want to know the funniest part? He is Italian. Just a brief summary. Well the article is still American and I doubt they care to make that differentiation. I only say he must be Sicilian because Sicilians and Neapolitan people tend to have darker skin because they are part of the Mediterranid race and tend to be descended from Carthaginians.
