Paul Ryan not ready to support Trump

House Speaker Paul Ryan said Thursday that he is not ready to support presumptive Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

In an appearance on CNN’s “The Lead with Jake Tapper,” Ryan said he wants to support his party’s nominee, but that he simply cannot do so just yet.

“I hope to though, and I want to,” Ryan said just after 4 p.m. ET. “But I think what is required is that we unify this party. And I think the bulk of the burden on unifying the party will have to come from our presumptive nominee.”

Ryan said Trump should be congratulated for what he has accomplished during the primaries, but noted that in becoming the face of the Republican Party, he has also inherited something that is “very special” to many people.

Trump responded late Thursday afternoon via a statement, saying he’s not ready to work with Ryan anyway.

“I am not ready to support Speaker Ryan’s agenda. Perhaps in the future we can work together and come to an agreement about what is best for the American people. They have been treated so badly for so long that it is about time for politicians to put them first!”

Flop thread 

Eh there are three possible scenarios here:

A) They're just grandstanding to essentially force Trump to cooperate with them under the table so they can get their cards in.

B) This hints at Paul Ryan potentially being chosen as the presidential frontrunner for the GOP party, leaving Trump in the dust.

C) They've given up on this election and will concede to the Democrats to repair the damage he has done. This will essentially force Trump to run as an "independent", without the backing of the party.

B and C are not mutually exclusive either. 

People know that tying themselves to the ticking time bomb that is Donald is career suicide.

B is not happening. He was asked if he would accept if they made him the frontrunner and he said no.

Hardly the case. It's not like he promised that he wouldn't. He can easily justify it by saying that Trump is a threat to Republican interests.

I actually think C is the case. Trump is uncontrollable, and the GOP recognize that. They'll most likely concede this race and work to revert the party from imploding.

Well he's been saying no for months about it. He's been asked several times and every time he throws that possibility out the window. Although I wouldn't put it past them to do something like that...although it would cause chaos among Trump voters and the GOP in general.

During the interview he said his goal was to keep the House Republican and to steer the country in the right direction again so I do see how they'd have C in mind.

B can't happen. Trump will get to 1,237 and will be the Republican nominee. 

Unless someone big decided to run as an Independant, the Republicans don't have a lot of options left.

That's the point though. The GOP is probably ready to abandon the sinking ship.

Nah that won't happen. Idk man... a lot of high profile Republicans don't want anything to do with him. I guess it all comes down to who Trump chooses to be his VP. If he gets a complete idiot as a VP, he's done.
