Hollywood is full of boobs and vaginas but you barely see a penis and if you see one everybody is losing their mind.. can you imagine what will happen if a celebrity in her age or even younger will wear a custom with his penis out or "barely" exposed to MET Gala? doomsday! in one moment all USA will be against him and his career will be over.. You're not connecting the dots properly. Women have always had to dress to the male gaze, which is why you constantly see breasts and ass everywhere. It's only when a woman starts to own her own look and her own nudity that people get offended - as easily shown by Madonna's career. She's not dressing to be sexy, she's dressing to express her own power when it comes to her sexuality and that's what pisses people off. She's right. There's a whole branch of art (the "nude") extending back hundreds of years where a woman just had to sit still and naked, looking at some random point in space (or in a mirror at herself: a sign of vanity) while the audience (mostly male in that time) spied on her private naked moment. The paintings that showed the woman looking directly at the viewer were called obscene, tasteless, p-rnographic and were banned. That's the dynamic right there. And that's why artists like Madonna and Gaga are still important. They remind us of that dynamic and that women are still toys of the male gaze, and that even women have internalized that mechanism of shaming women for owning their body. So it is a fight that needs to be fought. End of ****ing story.

(nothing is shocking anymore, it's not the 80s..) it was yucky. omg, i have to reply to this, then i'm leaving this mess of a thread. she needs to be less vulgar and more beautiful? no, she doesn't, that's the point. she's fighting against societal preconceived ideas about gender, sexuality, and beauty. she is the one who defines her own beauty and she is the one who uses her own sexuality—not society. Spoiler can't believe i'm defending madonna. i really need to go. if you hurt taylor swift, i'll hurt you back

MJHolland 12,723
Are you kidding? She actually thinks womens rights are less advanced than gay rights? You can be fired, denied housing, and be denied a promotion in the majority of developed states on this earth for being LGBT, you can't be fired for being a woman. And at least you can use the bathroom you feel safe using... It's not about your age, Madonna. No body wants to see somebody's wrinkly ass and tits, man or woman. It's not about women. This society we live in has decided we like an aesthetic and it has nothing to do with sexism.

Except her approach was 100% different. lol She didn't play with nudity, she played with offensive behavior, like simulating masturbation after she sends her men away. If that isn't a social statement than I don't know what is. She only appeared fully naked in the Sex book, in which she completely owned her body instead of catering to a male point of view. She's only started exposing her ass and tits now, when she's old and isn't allowed to do it anymore. Very important difference there. The only time she did anything comparable to what she's doing now was in a fashion show of Gaultier: http://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fanotherimg.dazedgroup.netdna-cdn.com%2F786%2Fazure%2Fanother-prod%2F340%2F3%2F343972.jpg&h=xAQHi7AiX&s=1 (not embedding 'cause NSFW) And it was received with a truckload of hatred even then. See also my post about women owning their body as culturally challenging itself in response to River above. Y'all aren't giving her enough credit. Yes she is a trainwreck rn, but what she pulled at the Met Gala was a breath of fresh air, a reminder of her relevance even after countless people have praised her for pushing the boundaries on what a woman can do in the industry. They're still not allowed to own their bodies without being punished and shamed and that's a problem and Madonna is damn right for exposing that problem. Do you think we, the French, have waited for the 21st century to arrive to free the nipple? Don't even try to educate me on that. I'm saying Madonna isn't bringing anything new to the conversation at this point, and I'm not saying this because I lack some kind of knowledge, thank you very much. Millions of no meaning thread are made every day here on other pop stars. And taking into account that Madonna is one of the only Gaga influences left, i dont know if it is irrelevant talking about her here on this forum. If George Clooney came wearing something that revealed that much skin, I think the MET would have burned to the f*cking ground. So for Madonna to wear that and have minimal commotion on the Internet, and if a man were to do that there would be riots in the streets, do women really have less freedom when it comes to expressing sexuality through fashion? It seems to me that female celebrities have way more freedom to express themselves in a sexual way (and by sexual expression I mean making yourself a sex object. Madonna isn't expressing her sexuality, she's objectifying herself by saying her literal tits n' ass represent her sexuality. That doesn't seem very empowering, M. Try to be different, and people will say you're a *******. And it doesn't just go for celebrities, but also in our everyday life.

I see no one bringing that up when they're praising these looks: Y'all are connecting things that don't need to be connected. There already is an expectation of women to dress sexy and show off their physical assets when men don't have to. The fact that Madonna goes the extra mile has nothing to do with "if a man did this" **** that ****. If a man dressed like any common celebrity on a red carpet there would already be drama and you know it, so ditch that retarded argument and focus on the real issue.
