If C2C was out before ARTPOP...

Let it go, I know, but this is just my unpopular opinion, I don't know if anyone had the same thoughts or has posted the same idea but, here we go hennies

 

If Cheek to Cheek was released before ARTPOP, I think ARTPOP would not receive the amount of destructive criticism that it had, given that Gaga would have the time to plan for how she wanted to have the era executed. Also, 2013 was the time when the geepee was like "we just want you to be normal/natural Gaga ffs," but then the world got ARTPOP, which the critics find too pretentious, and people already had enough of Crazy Ga since Born This Way then there comes the Applause video which was described on the YouTube comments as "a freakshow."

[I'm not hating on ARTPOP. Fair enough, the amount of ARTPOP tracks that I play/like is more than those of Born This Way tracks.]

And I know Cheek to Cheek is doing good when it comes to sales, [thousands away from reaching/surpassing ARTPOP's figures tbh] but it would have had better digits if it was released during 2013 since people were kind of thirsty for Gags that time. Cheek to Cheek was released when Gaga was "over" [not really over, what I mean is people having enough of her, refer to G.U.Y. performance]

So, I think that a jazz era as a comeback after a surgery and hiatus would be refreshing to the media. [but that's just my opinion, hennies] and during the middle of the jazz era, I presume the public will crave for the crazy Gaga back, and that would have been the perfect time for ARTPOP to kick off. No Roar VS. Applause mess, no unnecessary pitting to Katy/Miley/Bey by the media.

 

I'd love to hear your feedback on this thought, little monsters. This opinion of mine has been staying on my mind for quite a period of time.

I just can't imagine the follow-up of Born This Way being Cheek to Cheek. But you do have some valid points.

They would have tried to bash it and call it "Cheeky to Cheeky". 

2013 was just not in the cards for Gaga. I think the media wanted to tear down the it girl no matter what.

I think ARTPOP would have done even worse.  The aim of C2C,  from a selling point,  was to promote her talent and vocals. Imagine if AP was released after; an album that does not display her vocal ability or talent. It would have done worse IMO.

i don't think so, cuz look right now, after all that Gaga did with Cheek to Cheek, showcasing her talent and vocals, people want the pop Gaga back, so there might have been a greater desire for ARTPOP and it's sound. And so much right now in pop sounds so much like ARTPOP. The album was in a way ahead of it's time, like some people have been saying.

I think she would have progressed from c2c into a different style if she had gone from BTW - C2C -  lg4, it still would be pop but she would have been going through different thinks while writing an album.

I actually agree. Well we can't know anything for sure but it sounds like something that would have turned out better than what happened.

I think the only possible way ARTPOP could have done better is if it had been released after TFM/before BTW. That way it would have used the anticipation from her most successful era. Besides, BTW is a stronger and could have endured better the criticism (which happens inevitably at one point in a superstar's career). Also in terms of growth and maturity, it would have set a positive trend AP > BTW > CTC.

ARTPOP after CTC would have been worse than after BTW, tho.  One does not simply go from Jazz and earth-shaking vocals to MJH "cause I love, love, you better than" vocal delivery and get away with it. (no matter what the public perception is) 

Anyway, it is what it is, and at this point the lessons learnt from the AP era are more important in the long run than the trends of 2013, when she was put under the microscope for everything and mocked and simply dismissed as a "has-been".
