Alien Tulip 12,428
This is why I love Gaga. She's ridiculous, over the top, and pretentious like Mariah Carey but it comes from a good place in her heart. Gaga is one of those people that makes you laugh without even trying It wasn't even just the ARTPOP era. She's been this way since she was 19. Does anybody remember the speech she wrote for a guy to introduce her before she performed? It was when she was 19 and performed Hollywood and Master Heartbreaker. In her speech she described her music as "The most refreshing pop music that has ever existed" The Fame, The Fame Monster, Born This Way ARTPOP, Cheek to cheek, etc all had hysterical moments from her. My favorite is when she described Americano as an avant garde techno mariachi disco latin pop record and marry the night as gas station disco like wtf

You guys are unbelievable Are you not watching her interviews? Or are you and are you just concluding she's straight up lying 24/7? Calm down for goodness sake. I know that she watches Housewives and it helped her through her pain, but she also responded to a question about the housewives with how she loves the interpretation of the social commentary and that she's glad people have taken it that way, because it feeds into what ARTPOP is all about. I'm not disputing she loves the Housewives. Just because she's showing people the difference between reality tv and show-business (it's sad that people had to be shown) doesn't mean she doesn't like them, she can still like them with that statement. If you don't have shadows you're not standing in the light.

Well, you did say Gaga was "angry" about the success of reality stars and that she's the only one who "had the balls" to make a statement about it, so no, I actually do think you're contradicting yourself when you're saying Gaga can call them out for being talentless nobodies who don't deserve their fame and recognition while then actually being friends with them. There's no way Gaga would put people she considers friends in a video to mock them. Maybe she's amused that people are thinking about the idea of reality stars not embodying art (which is basically what she said about the DWUW cover art inspiration) but that still doesn't mean there was a statement actually in there. She is angry about it. She has stated in interviews it makes her angry when people class celebrity and artist in the same category. And she was the only artist to have the balls to say it. Name one more, go on. And I didn't say anything of the sort, you're misquoting me. I didn't say they don't deserve fame or recognition, I said that you can't blame artists for being angry when reality tv and celebrity is the number one sociological priority and artists get classed in alongside them. It discredits the artist and gives credit to celebrity where it isn't due. So no, I haven't contradicted myself even once. And yes, it does actually mean there is statement there, because she made the damn statement. Honestly, read what I say properly and stop being so defensive. TheBatman 951
It was funny to me but not funny haha :-( ARTPOP was like finding out my parents are just flawed humans. I was in art school during Gaga's meteoric rise and I bought everything hook line and sinker, I mean, she slayed me so hard lol By BTW I was loving her evolution and how she was really tackling some social issues through her work now, and the anticipation I had of ARTPOP was huge, and suddenly I was like omg she is actually talking out of her ass what is going on, oh no. It really felt like a different artist entirely to me, but I think her pretentiousness and everything was more hidden at first, and the songs were so strong before, I didn't care. And I was over all the complaining and victimhood from her, I was like come on girl you are amazing show us some confidence and just do you!

Prince, Bowie, P!nk, Madonna, countless comedians,... I mean, come on, what's more popular nowadays than to **** on reality stars as dumb bimbo's who don't deserve to be famous? And you're pretending saying that is a risk to your career? I imagine saying the opposite is career suicide. Even if she did say it, it's not in the video You are directly contradicting Gaga's own explanations about the video and doubting the validity of her praise for and friendship with the Housewives, yet you're pretending you're getting it and I'm not? And you're still ignoring the fact that the Housewives help her take back the industry If anything that's a statement about how art and pop can co-exist more than anything else. I already said she made the statement elsewhere (the DWUW cover), but if you think it's in G.U.Y. you're seriously reaching and blatantly countering Gaga's own explanations and behavior as lies and fables, which I wouldn't expect a fan to do tbh.. You seriously need to calm down and screw our head on. You are the one whose making up your own meanings for what I'm saying. And what video are you talking about? I can show you the interview where she does say it. And just because she's making a statement doesn't mean she is being 'mean' or 'shady.' The Housewives are completely aware that they are not artists. AND IT IS OKAY THAT THEY ARE NOT ARTISTS. She isn't attacking them, she's making a comment on society at large. I honestly don't know what our problem is. And get your head out of your ass. Don't assume I'm not a ****ing fan, I'm one of her biggest. You're the one whose insulting her by pretending to know what she means, applying it to your own way of thinking, then trying to attack me with it. If I recall she said IT'S COMPLETELY OPEN TO INTERPRETATION. So calm the **** down. If you don't have shadows you're not standing in the light. I'm literally responding to what you're writing. You claimed the Housewives were in the G.U.Y. video because Gaga wanted to make a statement about how reality stars weren't artists. I disagreed, based on what Gaga said herself about it. 2 minutes ago, Drunk Poet said: The Housewives are completely aware that they are not artists. AND IT IS OKAY THAT THEY ARE NOT ARTISTS. She isn't attacking them, she's making a comment on society at large. I honestly don't know what our problem is. The problem is you made a statement about the supposed statement in a music video which isn't in there. I've asked you twice to explain why the Housewives help Gaga to take back the industry at the end of the video and you've ignored it, probably because you can't explain it. You've also ignored Gaga's own explanation for why they're in the video in the first place.. That's my problem. 3 minutes ago, Drunk Poet said: You're the one whose insulting her by pretending to know what she means, applying it to your own way of thinking, then trying to attack me with it. I'm literally basing my own opinions on what Gaga said EXPLICITLY herself while you're the one continuing to spread the idea that Gaga was making a statement in G.U.Y. that's not in it, which is easily proven by the video itself ànd Gaga's explanations of it Nothing I said was my own idea or interpretation. In fact, I was responding to you because you're the one who's pretending to know what she means without basing it on facts, and ignoring the counterproof I've provided you more than once now. "continuing to spread" "you're the one whose pretending" You seem to think I'm trying to attack Gaga, which, if so, you are a genuine idiot. I am also basing my response on what Gaga herself said, and maybe just because you didn't see that she also said that it was a social comment, doesn't mean she didn't say it. You honestly think too highly of yourself if that's the case. All of the statements she made she said were open to interpretation, so I don't see what your problem is. I'm not misquoting Gaga, I'm not misrepresenting her art. Her art is polysemic and has many meanings all at once. Stop being so defensive and acting as though I'm spreading around a ****ing lie, why would I? I have respect for artists. I'd ask you to have respect for me. If you don't have shadows you're not standing in the light.

I loved this commentary because she's the only artist with balls enough to say it because the others are scared of losing their fame whereas Gaga isn't, because she'll still have her talent. It's the old saying, it's not arrogant if it's true. Society is obsessed with reality television and you can't blame artists for getting angry when it is placed not only at a sociological priority but goes against social change and derides the meaning of true showbiz and true art. It is one of my favourite statements from Gaga. The very fact that when it's mentioned people call it shady SPEAKS VOLUMES about the extent to which reality tv is ingrained in social consciousness. It's sad. I didn't mean it was shady in a bad way lol. I think it is a point that needs to be made. I was more pointing out that if the housewives were smart enough, they would realize it is shady toward their way of attaining fame.
