I don't think that was intentional. You have to register way before the release date so I'm sure they made this decision a long time ago before knowing Zedd was releasing with Kesha on that day.

Didn't Gaga release Applause after snippets starting leaking, way before the actual release date though? 

Calvin and Zedd have had beef before if I remember correctly, it wasn't a big deal but they did throw shade at each other on Twitter

Ahhh Rih/Calvin, Kesha/Zedd and Drake's new album all on Friday, after getting an AMAZING Beyonce album. Not to mention, recently getting the Lumineer's album, Gwen album, Kanye album, Rihanna album, etc. My LG5 thirst is actually going away a little bit because of all this amazing music coming out and to look forward to. If Gaga releases this year, 2016 will go down in history as one of the greatest years for music in recent times.

Yeah but that was an improvised release. I don't think (I can't guarantee you but that's what I feel) that Rihanna or Calvin intend to butcher Kesha and Zedd's success. Even if Rihanna releases a while later, they'd still be more successful:

#1 Zedd is releasing an old song, Calvin a new one

#2 Rihanna is too huge a name to flop, especially when the song is expected to be a generic EDM song that everyone bops to. Not to mention the GP loves Calvin.
