well fan got inspired by her lyric, but her response had nothing to do with the song, just her personal experience with the word

No one would have even called her that if Beyonce' never came out with the song. Come on. Be real. :emma:

I would agree with her, BUT no where does Beyoncé say that Becky is a white woman. Becky could be short for Rebecca and black women can be called Rebecca too.

Also, why do people say stuff like "don't say that with your background" when she is learning and correcting herself? She is obviously aware of what she did in the past and is now making up for it. We shouldn't be judging that. :applause:

So...Iggy just doesn't want to be called Becky.

This really doesn't have anything to do with Beyonce's song.

Wasn't Beyonce referring to an Indian woman anyhow?

I laugh at how you accused me of not looking at things deeply enough when I dismissed your suggestion that Beyonce and Rihanna only get compared because they're black, but when an issue comes up concerning a slang term that's translated as being negative to white women, you say that we're looking into things too deeply. Are white people's opinions never valid to you? Are black women the only ones who deserve support?

Fair enough, until you find out that most people consider it to be a white girl's name, just like other similar names. I remember watching an episode of Tyra Banks where she asked a group of people to voice their perception of someone just based on their name alone, no visuals. When the name Ashleigh came up, almost everyone, including white people, said that they thought this was a white, blue-eyed, blonde girl and that she was spoiled, dumb and promiscuous. They also thought Deedrica was a black woman who was sassy and promiscuous and that Jose was a Mexican drug dealer. Now, obviously, that's just this small group of people. But I think it gives a glimpse into how judgemental we can be, even when it comes to something as apparently irrelevant as a name. So, I'm not taking this Becky thing lightly. If we go lightly, the name can gain status, it can spread and gain acceptance just because it's a term for whites, who can't be hurt, or so we're led to believe. If we just dismiss it, we're complicit in it.

I see. I, personally, don't find it cute to refer to people of a race by a stereotypical name. I'd never see an Asian woman and refer to her as "Mai ling." I just don't want Becky to be seen as a white name because I don't believe names hold color if that makes any sense lmao idk. Side note- Deedrica is a tragic name lmao

She would try to make this about her. Sorry girl, your hair isn't much more impressive than your "music."

Because she keeps endangering her own career with these kinds of risky tweets (I'm still not picking sides). Most labels would revoke the right to her own Twitter.
