I don't read it as him saying he will absolutely not endorse her. He's not throwing in the towel yet (which I can't blame him for) and is saying that she needs to make his supporters feel welcome if she expects their vote. Is that really so bad? This wasn't a discussion about conceding the race. It was about him making the statement that he will not endorse her and will let her try to capture his constituency on her own if she so desires by proving she is worthy. That sounds fine in an ideal setting, but considering the damage that his campaign has done to his colleague's run, it's only fair that he at least try to do some damage control rather than make a statement that amounts to "**** it I'm done". Hillary has never shunned his constituency. She has similar aims to his in practice if not in theory. It is they that need to LET themselves see it. They choose not to, in no small part due to Sanders' statements about her character and goals.which in many cases have been shown to be misdirecting or outright fallacious. I mean...he literally uses GOP talking points. How sad is it? Edited just now by LebaneseDude.
Whispering 18,865
@FFXSoul91 Bernie Bros, not Bernie Bots...in direct reference to those who cry "corruption" and "rigged" when they lose. Also, the term Bernie Bros is one that was started by a journalist and wasn't used in a demeaning manner. If I wanted to demean Bernie's supporters, there are other terms I could have used....but I stay away from those.

But when did he say that he will not endorse her? I didn't see that at all. He said he does not hold the power to convince his supporters to do whatever he wants them to. This a round-about way to dodge the question. He's making the implication that he has no investment in the future of the party. He should try to convince them that she's the next best thing, not sit on his laurels. Do you disagree that it's not the leaders' job to make sure his followers go on the right path that benefits them, even if they refuse to look? This is too laissez-faire and goes against what he said in the past. Edited just now by LebaneseDude.

Even though Bernie and a portion of his supporters are being rather stubborn and headstrong at the moment, we aren't headed for a contested convention with the National Gaurd on duty. The Republican convention could be an all out brawl, both inside and outside. Republican members of Congress and long time leaders and supporters in the party are saying they will boycott. Bernie will either support Hillary or he won't. The Democrats in Congress and leaders of the party, including Obama and Biden, will all attend the convention and give Hillary their full support. I agree that he is dodging the question, similar to how Hillary has on the same subject in the past. This summer is the time for damage control. Hillary and Bernie can't afford to look chummy at this point or he would put any chance he has left on the line.

Bernie is unfortunately renowned for the opposite. Her supporters know she'll do what she did for Obama. That he says he won't do the same is ... unfortunate. I thought Sanders tag line was idealism. Why are you giving him a pass for this practical and very politically manipulative decision? Edited just now by LebaneseDude.

I felt it would be stereotyping to say that Bernie supporters were crying "rigged" because many of them aren't. Many understand that the primaries are Party Primaries and that they are structured in various ways. It is a certain portion of Bernie supporters that are on the "it's all corrupt" train. I know many Bernie supporters in real life who are level headed and understand the bigger picture.

The Democratic party is about as messy as it will get at this point. Soon, things will cool off. The Republicans' disaster has yet to take full form. You are absolutely right. I just don't see this as his "end game" statement for if he loses the race, which looks likely at this point. He wants his voters to be heard and what he said is not much different than what Hillary said in June of 2008. Much later in the race, she was still willing to fight.
